Network Field Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of telecommunications networks by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network equipment, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Network Field Technicians in telecommunications are responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecommunications equipment and networks.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions:
  • You have technical experience and a good understanding of telecom networks working as a field technician demonstrated by your ability to handle more complex tasks, including network installations, upgrades, and repairs, as well as assisting in troubleshooting advanced issues.
  • Must be able to work independently or with others while applying appropriate methods to troubleshoot issues with the help of remote employees in our NOC or other groups.
  • Responsible for assisting senior technicians, provisioners, NOC, and engineers in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining telecommunications networks. Their roles and responsibilities may include:
  • Assisting in the installation and configuration of network hardware, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Assisting in the installation and termination of network cables and connectors.
  • Performing routine network monitoring tasks to identify and resolve network issues.
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity issues and resolving them within designated SLAs.
  • Assisting in the diagnosis and resolution of network performance issues.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and documentation of network infrastructure.
  • Providing on-site support to customers for network-related problems.
  • Assisting in the implementation of network security measures.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure efficient and effective network operations.
  • Basic understanding of power - DC vs. AC, Amps vs. Volts
  • Understanding how to use test equipment including T-Bird, Exfo platform, - 10G, 100G, Viavi- PRI Ethernet tester, Multimeter, and OTDR's.
  • Good understanding of our services and delivery methods Eth, TDM, SONET, DWDM, IP, SD-WAN
  • A good technical and mechanical background with experience in the latest generation transport gear, critical infrastructure (HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, DC power plants, etc.), as well as knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
  • Skilled in technical communications with customers and vendors, to help resolve issues.
  • Inventory management is critical in all technician job roles.
  • Maintain warehouse and inventory counts of equipment and equipment spares.
  • Handles and maintains the flow of materials and products for installations and trouble tickets.
  • Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices.
  • Maintains accurate records of received goods and rejects unsatisfactory items.
  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Schedule and manage vendors who work on our various critical infrastructure equipment, such as HVAC systems, UPS, and generators
  • Perform building maintenance activities, such as routine facilities tasks and inspections, and work with other Syringa employees on requests that might come in, including office moves.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience in related industry
  • High school diploma
  • Good technical mindset for troubleshooting and installations.
  • Basic electronics with more advanced analog and digital knowledge
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and familiar with standard office equipment.
  • Standard basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time including overnight stays.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to interpret maps, work orders, service orders, and trouble tickets.
  • Must work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, dispatch, and overtime as required and dictated by business needs.
  • May operate motorized and non-motorized equipment (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, company vehicles)
  • Excellent customer service is critical, and one must be able to speak professionally with customers during stressful or sensitive situations.
  • Perform other tasks related to but not mentioned herein.
