Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for the delivery of flight instruction in accordance with FAA flight syllabi, standards, and regulations.

Job Description

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Provide CFI services in accordance with FAA syllabi and standards.

  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate records as required by FAA, maintain a positive environment for students with emphasis on safety, professionalism, and equipment security.

  • Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, and scheduling as a cooperative and professional team player.

  • Mentor students as a positive role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.

  • Participate in professional development activities which provide for continually updated knowledge and skills.

  • Supervise student solo flight activities.

  • Maintain all appropriate training records.

  • Using FVTC airplanes/simulators as required, continuously meet the recent flight experience requirements of FAR 61.57 (c), 9d), and (e), for single and multi-engine land planes, and maintain documentation required by FAR 61.51.

  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and College/Program policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist with academic issues and counseling of students for student success.

  • Assist with student recruitment and support public relations efforts.

  • Assist with updates of charts/data/etc.

  • Assist with coordination of aircraft maintenance.

Minimum QualificationsLicenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • CFI-ASEL, CFI-AMEL, and CFI-IA required.

  • Ability to maintain a Class I or II medical certificate, a current Flight Review (FAR 61.56), and a current CFI certificate (FAR 61.197).

  • Time in a C172 and/or BE-76 is preferred.

  • Requires valid Driver's License.

  • Subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Check.

  • Work is commonly completed in person with elements supported in a virtual or hybrid environment

  • Work is typically performed in a classroom and laboratory

  • Work is occasionally performed outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours, and in all conditions

Work environment may change based upon college needs.Physical Requirements
  • Sitting: This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer and aircraft systems

  • Mobility: While much of the work is desk-based, regular mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace

  • Lifting and Carrying: The role requires occasional/continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (50 pounds)

  • Climbing: Capability to climb stairs or ladders

  • Fine Motor Skills: This role may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers

  • Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury

  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means

  • Travel: Position may require off-site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development

  • Driving/Operational: Qualified to operate a vehicle or equipment, as required in the position

  • Other: Depending on the specific requirements of the instructional role and duties required, additional physical requirements may be required

Additional Information

Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour.
