Job Summary/Responsibilities

The Overnight Security & Maintenance Associate is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of guests, employees, and hotel property during overnight hours while also supporting basic maintenance and facility operations. This role combines hospitality-focused security presence with light engineering and preventive maintenance responsibilities appropriate for a luxury boutique hotel environment.

The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, guest-focused, and capable of responding calmly and efficiently to operational, safety, and maintenance-related matters during overnight shifts.

Security & Safety Responsibilities

  • Patrol hotel interior and exterior areas regularly to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitor security cameras, entrances, exits, and public areas.
  • Respond promptly to guest or employee concerns, disturbances, alarms, emergencies, and suspicious activity.
  • Secure all hotel access points, offices, and restricted areas during overnight operations.
  • Complete incident and daily activity reports accurately and professionally.
  • Coordinate with emergency services, law enforcement, or hotel leadership when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel safety standards, fire regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct fire/life safety inspections and assist with emergency response procedures.
  • Assist with guest requests in a professional and hospitable manner during overnight hours.

Maintenance & Engineering Responsibilities

Perform basic preventive maintenance and minor repairs including:

  • Painting doors and walls in guest and associate areas
  • Light bulb replacement
  • Plumbing fixes such as unclogging drains or minor leaks
  • Touch-up repairs and basic troubleshooting
  • HVAC filter checks and simple adjustments
  • Furniture or fixture adjustments
  • Respond to overnight guestroom maintenance calls promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with room inspections and ensure guestrooms meet luxury presentation standards.
  • Support engineering team with work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, boiler, lighting, and water systems and report irregularities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance and storage areas.
  • Assist with weather or emergency preparedness procedures if applicable.

Guest Service Expectations

  • Maintain a polished, professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Provide exceptional service consistent with The Loren Hotel Austin standards.
  • Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns discreetly and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with overnight front desk and management teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of security, maintenance, hotel operations, or related experience preferred.
  • Hospitality or luxury hotel experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance systems and safety procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, bend, kneel, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work overnight hours in indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Primarily overnight shift in a luxury boutique hotel setting.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, mechanical equipment, and outdoor conditions during patrols.
