Injection Molding Maintenance Mechanic Day in the Life

On a typical first-shift morning in Elgin, IL, you walk the production floor, review overnight machine logs, and plan your preventative rounds. A molding press flags a hydraulic alarm—you diagnose the root cause using schematics and a multimeter, replace a faulty component, and bring the line back to full speed. Before lunch, you assist with a mold changeover and verify utilities are stable. In the afternoon, you close the loop on work orders, update PM checklists, and partner with operators to prevent issues before they start.

You’ll keep plastic injection molding equipment and facility systems running safely and reliably—boosting uptime, process stability, and overall production efficiency.

What You’ll Do
  • Execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on injection molding machines and auxiliary systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to pinpoint faults.
  • Support mold changeovers, production startups, and urgent equipment repairs.
  • Assist with facility upkeep, utility systems, and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing; plastics injection molding preferred.
  • Proven mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability; comfortable working independently.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and automated equipment.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License and safe operation of tools and diagnostic equipment.
