How much do overnight futures trading jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 26, 2026, the average yearly pay for overnight futures trading in the United States is $64,999.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $57,500.00 and $72,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is overnight futures trading?

Overnight futures trading refers to the buying and selling of futures contracts outside of regular market hours, typically during the nighttime or international trading sessions. This type of trading allows investors to react to global events and news that occur after the traditional trading day has ended. Overnight trading can lead to increased volatility and risk, but it also provides opportunities for traders to capitalize on market movements while most markets are closed. Traders often use overnight strategies to hedge positions or take advantage of short-term market inefficiencies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Overnight Futures Trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight Futures Trader, you need strong analytical abilities, a deep understanding of financial markets, and a relevant degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Proficiency with trading platforms such as MetaTrader or Interactive Brokers, as well as knowledge of risk management software and relevant financial certifications (e.g., Series 3), is essential. Excellent decision-making, stress management, and the ability to stay focused during irregular hours are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for making informed trading decisions, managing risk effectively, and maintaining performance during volatile overnight market sessions.

What is the difference between Overnight Futures Trading vs Futures Broker?

AspectOvernight Futures TradingFutures Broker
CredentialsTypically requires knowledge of trading platforms and market analysisRequires licensing (e.g., Series 3), licensing exams, and registration
Work EnvironmentActive trading during overnight hours, often solo or in trading teamsOffice-based, client interaction, and trade execution
Industry UsagePart of trading operations, focusing on executing overnight tradesFacilitates client trades, provides market advice, and manages accounts

Overnight Futures Trading involves executing trades during overnight hours, focusing on market movements and strategies. Futures Brokers, on the other hand, act as intermediaries, assisting clients with trade execution and providing market insights. While both roles require knowledge of futures markets, brokers need licensing and client management skills, whereas traders focus on market analysis and trading strategies.

Is it worth trading futures at night?

Overnight futures trading involves executing trades outside regular market hours, which can offer opportunities due to lower volatility and less competition. However, it also carries increased risks from lower liquidity and wider spreads, requiring traders to have strong risk management skills and access to real-time data. For futures traders, understanding market hours and maintaining discipline are essential for success in overnight trading.

Can you make $1000 a day day trading?

Overnight futures trading as a profession involves significant risk and requires substantial skill, experience, and capital. While some traders may achieve high daily profits, consistently making $1000 a day is uncommon and depends on market conditions, trading strategies, and risk management. Most traders experience variability in earnings and should be prepared for potential losses.

Can I hold futures positions overnight?

Overnight futures trading is common in futures trading roles, as traders often hold positions beyond the trading day to capitalize on market movements. However, holding futures positions overnight involves risks such as overnight price gaps and margin requirements, and traders must monitor their positions and maintain sufficient margin to avoid liquidation.

What jobs pay 500,000 a year in the US?

In the context of overnight futures trading, highly successful traders or hedge fund managers can earn $500,000 or more annually through large trading volumes, performance bonuses, and profit sharing. These roles typically require advanced financial knowledge, risk management skills, and access to significant capital or institutional trading platforms. Such high earnings are less common in entry-level positions and often depend on experience, performance, and market conditions.

What are the key challenges faced by overnight futures traders and how can they be managed?

Overnight futures traders often encounter unique challenges such as lower market liquidity, increased volatility during global economic events, and the need for vigilant risk management when most of the team and support staff are off duty. Successful traders mitigate these risks by employing automated trading strategies, setting strict stop-loss orders, and staying updated on international news that could impact markets. Additionally, effective communication with team members during shift changes is essential to ensure continuity and minimize errors.

Job description

Company Name: IG US Holdings, Inc.
Role: Senior Product Manager, Futures
Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid (3 days/week in office)
Our Product Team manages the portfolio of features and enhancements that power tastytrade, guiding each initiative from initial concept through discovery, build, deployment, and continuous improvement. We're expanding the team to match the ambition of what we're building, and we're hiring a Senior Product Manager to own our futures trading experience.
tastytrade already has a strong futures offering, and we're about to make it significantly more powerful. As we execute a major expansion of our futures infrastructure, taking greater ownership of its clearing and operational capabilities, this role will be actively involved in key firm decisions, while also owning the client-facing experience that futures traders see every day. This is a unique opportunity to own meaningful customer experience work on a live, high-volume trading surface, while engaging in the kind of structural work that changes what tastytrade is capable of long-term.
You'll report into the head of product and own tastytrade's futures experience end-to-end - contract discovery and order entry, position management, margin communication etc. - while partnering closely with the technology and operations teams driving this buildout. You'll develop deep subject matter expertise in futures markets and play a pivotal role in shaping a platform that's redefining what a retail futures business looks like.
What You'll Do:
Own the futures trading experience end-to-end:
  • Lead strategy and execution for the full futures product surface, including the active trader interface, 'pairs' trader, DOM and ladder, chart-integrated order entry, calendar spread and roll workflows, and options-on-futures entry.
  • Ensure a fast, precise, and trustworthy experience for active traders across web, mobile, and desktop, while recognizing that each platform has unique constraints and highest-value use cases.

Drive measurable business outcomes:
  • Develop a comprehensive product strategy for futures that translates business vision into executable plans.
  • Define and track OKRs and KPIs tied to futures trading volume, active trader retention, and micro contract adoption.
  • Build business cases for new product investments with clear ROI projections and competitive positioning.

Navigate complexity across markets and stakeholders:
  • Own the product decisions that sit at the intersection of trading infrastructure, exchange relationships, and regulatory requirements, including margin methodology (SPAN), overnight vs. intraday requirement communication, clearing and reconciliation, and session transition UX.
  • As tastytrade expands its role in futures market infrastructure, you'll help define what new capabilities mean for the customer experience, working closely with legal, compliance, and operations to translate regulatory milestones into product opportunities.
  • You'll communicate confidently with executive stakeholders while translating between technical and business perspectives, and manage cross-functional dependencies with the options, equities, and core platform teams.

Grow and develop the futures customer base:
  • Partner with marketing and content teams to identify opportunities to bring new traders into futures, particularly through the micro contract product lineup (/MES, /MNQ, /MBT, and others), and design the onboarding, education, and activation flows that get them to their first successful trade.

Who You Are:
5+ years of product management experience with demonstrated success leading complex product initiatives, managing stakeholder relationships, and delivering products that drove significant business outcomes and revenue growth
Deep familiarity with futures markets:
  • You understand contract specifications, tick sizes, margin mechanics (SPAN), expiration and roll dynamics, and the difference between equity index, commodity, interest rate, and crypto futures products
  • Expertise in high-performance trading interfaces, with a strong point of view on what active futures traders need from order entry, position management, and risk display across web, mobile, and desktop
  • Experience in fintech, retail brokerage, or an adjacent regulated industry is strongly preferred; direct experience building or using futures trading platforms is a significant advantage. Familiarity with futures market structure, including clearing, execution, and the role of FCMs in the trade lifecycle, will be particularly valuable as tastytrade grows its presence in this space

Strong technical and commercial acumen:
  • You can define comprehensive non-functional requirements around latency, data fidelity, and session handling, and work in lockstep with engineering while building business cases and tracking financial metrics tied to product performance

Mastery of advanced PM methods:
  • Expert with prototyping, A/B testing, advanced analytics, and roadmapping platforms, with experience leveraging AI and machine learning to optimize product capabilities

Exceptional communication and leadership skills:
  • Able to tailor messaging to diverse stakeholders from engineers to executives, with experience mentoring junior product managers and establishing scalable ways of working across teams
  • Passion for empowering individual traders and improving the futures trading experience through data-driven insights and strategic decision-making

Company Perks + Benefits:
  • Performance Bonuses
  • Stock Purchase Options
  • Medical/Vision/Dental Benefits
  • 401k Plan
  • Annual educational / conference stipend
  • 20 Paid Vacation Days (plus an additional paid vacation day the month of your birthday!)
  • 10 Paid Sick Days
  • Gym Membership Reimbursement
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Pet Insurance
  • Wellness & Mental Health Programs
  • Charitable Donation Matching
  • Two Paid Volunteer Days Off
  • Daily catered lunch when in the office
  • Full kitchen with snacks and beverages
  • In-building gym
  • Shuttle to/from Metra
  • Office located in the West Loop - Chicago's growing center of tech, great cuisine, and high-end bars

Base Salary Range: $150,000 - $190,000
The actual salary offered will be based on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications.
Discretionary Performance Bonus: 15-20% of base salary based on individual and company performance.
