Job Description

Storage for the Cloud Services Group will be an action‑oriented, disruptive, and innovative driving force, responsible for designing the capabilities, features and functions of cloud computing infrastructure offerings for hosted services and SaaS products across the company. This particular position will focus on Storage in cloud and data center environments. This individual will influence and lead cross functional teams to complete projects and major initiatives using judgment and growing experience. The Design Engineer will follow a collaborative process with architects understand the solution architecture and then fully articulate the design of the platform. This person will identify, deliver, and document the required design artifacts to make the new solution capabilities generally available, including design specifications, test plans/results and training material. After the design phase, the engineer will actively continue monitoring and consulting throughout the execution phases, including implementation and operations, feeding implementation and operational challenges back into design opportunities. As a senior technical leader, this person is expected to deliver and lead through others, as well as personally working to reach innovative solutions to business problems. The ability to teach and mentor technical personnel is required. The ideal candidate has a broad technical understanding of cloud infrastructure services in general, but also possesses significant additional depth in at least one discipline.

Qualifications

Typically requires an engineering degree (BS with additional experience highly desired) , and at least five to seven years of increasing responsibility for designing and lab testing of Cloud Solutions including server consolidation, storage consolidation, disaster recovery, backups, networking, and security. Knowledge and experience on holistic data center virtualization (spanning compute, storage, security and networking services like server load balancing etc) is highly desirable.

Technical Expertise
  • Storage technologies: file (NAS), block (SAN), object storage, transport (FCoE, iSCSI, etc), replication, backup, performance.
  • Compute technologies: x86, hypervisor (Openstack/KVM), OS (Linux/Windows), workload mobility.
  • Cisco’s Data Center Product Line: Nexus Products (N7K, N5k, N2k, N1kV), Catalyst products (65xx, 49xx switches), and UCS.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS and Application Workloads in context of Data Center Architecture design.
  • Experience in testing enterprise scale design environment. Experience in test plan creation, execution and results reporting is a must.
Non-Technical Requirements
  • Core expertise to include design concepts, IT analysis/analytical thinking, enterprise perspective and process knowledge.
  • Analytical reasoning and creative problem solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of the end-to-end IT process, including architecture, design & engineering, implementation, and operations; prior architecture, design, implementations and operational responsibilities are highly desirable.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills: ability to communicate technology strategy and architecture approach to engineers, senior management, and customers.
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills at technical level.
