Job description

Constellation Health Services is seeking an

11th Hour Hospice Volunteer

Constellation Health Services’ Hospice program is looking for volunteers to visit patients who have terminal illnesses. Make a difference in your community, be part of the hospice team, and have a flexible volunteer schedule. A few hours a week can make a big difference to someone nearing the end of life!

11th Hour Volunteer Position Description:

  • Caring presence for patients nearing death, including emotional support, spiritual support, and comfort measures 
  • Demonstrate understanding of the dying process and ability to provide compassion and support
  • Desire to support patients and families at the time when a patient is actively dying
  • At least 6 months of hospice experience
  • Comfortable with the death and dying process
  • Be a listener
  • Sit with patients overnight to provide respite to caregivers
  • Pray with patients as requested
  • Advocate for the patient as needed
  • Run errands, and make phone calls for caregivers who do not wish to leave the patient's bedside 
  • Minimum commitment of 1 year
  • Maintain an accurate record of hours

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Able to commit for one year to our program.
  • Able to commit to at least 4 hours per week. 
  • Ability to listen deeply, interest in and compassion for others, good boundaries and self-care, and meet people where they’re at in energy and tone. 
  • Online training takes approximately 20 hours and is personally enriching, focusing on personal death awareness and hospice philosophy.
  • No close death in the last year
