DISTRICT SUPPORT PARAPROFESSIONALS -- NO BENEFITS -- DALLAS, PENNSYLVANIA
There are four (4) paraprofessional classifications.ย  Assignment will be determined by the district.ย

1.ย  EDUCATIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL -ย no benefits
Under the direction of a lead teacher, or administrator, the educational paraprofessional is one of several staff members responsible for providing support to students and programs within a school setting.ย  Educational paraprofessionals provide service to school nurses' offices, libraries, and other areas as assigned.

Nurses' Paraprofessional:

1.ย  Provides appropriate emergency care of illness or injury to students and staff in accordance with school district policy and procedure, and as directed by the Certifiedย School Nurseย (CSN).
2.ย ย Assists in the control of communicable diseases according to procedures.ย 
3.ย ย Administers oral, inhaled, and topical medications to students as delegated by the CSN.ย  Injected medications may be given only in an emergency.ย ย 
4.ย ย On receiving new medication with prescriber's written order and parent's permission, notifies CSN. Consults with CSN regarding dosage, schedule for administration, side effects, expected effects, and other pertinent data regarding medication.
5.ย ย Keeps accurate records of medications brought to the Health Office and records each administration of medication on the individual Student Medication Record.
6.ย ย Maintains confidentiality of information learned regarding students and their families.ย 
7.ย ย Notifies CSN and building Principal of serious incidents, significant health problems, referrals, and possible child abuse.ย 





Exhibits knowledge of job limitations and accepts supervision. Performs all other health-related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school health program.ย  Assists with students daily hygiene and self-care monitoring throughout the day.
Library Paraprofessional:ย 

1.ย  Plans, initiates and carries to completion, clerical, secretarial and administrative activities related to the operation of the school's library.ย 
2.ย ย Maintains student library use records and accounts including overdue notices and the collection of fines.ย 
3.ย ย Shelves books and other library materials.ย 
4.ย ย  Maintains library materials inventory.
5.ย ย Receives and processes new library materials.
6.ย  Supervises and trains student library aides Supervises students in the library.ย 
ย 





Computer Labย Paraprofessional:ย 

ย 1. Coordinates students, teachers and technical support personnel for the purpose of maintaining computer lab operations.
2.ย  Installs computer software applications for the purpose of providing instructional materials.
3.ย  Instructs students and teachers for the purpose of complementing classroom instruction with a variety of software applications and the use of computer technology.
4.ย  Maintains computer hardware and software applications for the purpose of ensuring availability of instructional materials. Maintains computer lab equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
5.ย ย Monitors students in the computer lab for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
6.ย ย Monitors classroom usage of technology devices and appropriateness of equipment utilization per district wide usage agreement.
7.ย ย Prepares documentation (e.g. daily usage, progress reports, requisitions, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.ย 
8.ย ย Recommends computer hardware and software acquisitions as requested for the purpose of ensuring availability of instructional materials.
9.ย  Researches software applications for the purpose of providing recommendations regarding potential applications appropriate for student level.
ย 








Behavioral Tech:ย 

1. Monitor student on-task behavior and incorporates prompting hierarchy within the classroom instruction to support task completion.
2. Assists students in working towards generalizing learned behavioral skills across all learning environments.
3.ย  Collect data, monitor, and build intervention program which incorporates de-escalation strategies and promotes self-regulation of learned skills and the ability to work towards independence.
4. Models appropriate social skills as integrated in instructional lessons to help students generalize across different environmental settings.ย

2.ย ย INSTRUCTIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL -ย no benefits.




Under direction from the special education teacher, the instructional paraprofessional is responsible for supporting students with IEPs in meeting their educational goals.ย 

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member (special or regular education teacher, reading specialist), to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.
JOB DUTIES:

1.Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills in the context of student IEPs and behavior plans.
2. Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
3.Assists professional staff in the administration, modification, and delivery of classroom exercises, tests and assessments and collects and organizes behavioral data at the direction of the teacher.
4.Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
5. Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
6. Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
7. Accompanies students on field trips or during daily transportation rides (to and from school) for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
8. Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.
9. Participates in IEP process and serves as resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
10. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
11. Escorts students throughout the school day as deemed necessary.
12. Models appropriate social skills as integrated in instructional lessons to help students generalize across different environmental settings.ย  ย 
ย 











Additional Duties:
1.Assist guidance, pupil services staff, or building administration, as needed.
2. Perform any other related duties as assigned.
3. Assists in following safety protocols and procedures as outlined in the district EOP/Flipchart



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
General knowledge of practices, theods, and techniques used in special education; ability to maintain files and information; understand and use classroom and instructional equipment; ability to operate audio, visual, and standard office word and data processing equipment; ability to use email, Google doc applications; ability to operate adaptive equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students and administrators.

3.ย ย ONE-ON-ONE PARAPROFESSIONAL -ย no benefits
The One-on-One Paraprofessional is assigned specifically to a student who regularly needs one-on-one assistance to maintain appropriate and equitableย participation in the school setting. This positionย directly supports the students at theย direction of the teacher and is under the general supervision of the program supervisorย of special education.
JOB DUTIES:







1. Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction.
2. Provide instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students individuallyย in all settings, including field trips and being present on school transportation, at the direction of the teacher, to reinforce and follow upย instruction.
3. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up andย assigned by the teacher. Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise testing andย make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
4. Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storyย telling.
5. Maintain daily activity logs for your assigned student(s).
6. Alert regular teacher to any problem or special information about your individualย student (s).
7. Serve as the chief source of information for your assigned students to help toย any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
8. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of informationย about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
9. Operate and or assist in the use of student mobility devices such as, but notย limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc.
10. Implement and maintain student specific behavior, medical, emergency, or crisisย plans.
11. Assist in the maintenance of classroom discipline in accordance with establishedย policy and procedures.
12. Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes. Encourage students to utilize communication mode across environmental setting to increase independence.ย 
13. Assist students in self-care as assigned by teacher/administration.
14. Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by speech andย language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and otherย support staff.
15. Participate in staff development training programs as assigned.
16. Perform other duties that may be assigned by special education teacher (i.e., conduct informal observation of student in mainstream classroom, etc.).
17. Assists in adapting/modifying assessments, classroom instructional activities, study guides.
18. Escorts students throughout the school day as deemed necessary.ย 
19. Models appropriate social skills as integrated in instructional lessons to help students generalize across different environmental settings including during student transport.ย 
20. Assist students with daily/visual schedules as well as sensory breaks.ย 
21. Monitor safety of environment and transition of student from one location to another.
22. Work collaboratively with outside agencies such as nursing and TSS individual supports.ย 
23. Participate in team meetings to assist with academic and behavioral feedback and program planning.ย 
24. Follow IEP and Behavioral Intervention Supports. Track data throughout students day.ย
