Job description

What We Are Looking For
Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We are seeking a highly motivated Specialist - Engineering Technician to support Division 10 Operations and Measurement groups. This position supports assets across Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP), Stagecoach Storage, and Arlington Storage, focusing on automation, electrical, and hardware systems at natural gas compressor and measurement stations.
This role covers a broad geographical area including Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and New Jersey, and provides both on-site and remote support for:
• Industrial gas turbine / centrifugal compressor trains
• Internal combustion engine / reciprocating compressor packages
• Electric motor / compressor packages
• Ancillary equipment (fans, pumps, air compressors, cooling towers
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Collaborate with Automation Engineers on design and implementation of control system projects (DCS, PLC, Safety Systems, SCADA).
• Provide technical guidance to Operations Specialists and leadership regarding plant operations and troubleshooting.
• Support environmental compliance and emissions testing in partnership with Environmental Representatives and contractors.
• Troubleshoot advanced automation and compressor control issues (e.g., failed starts, unit trips, erratic operation).
• Maintain and troubleshoot control logic (PLC) and HMI programs on station and unit controllers.
• Support HMI hardware and SCADA data transfers to Gas Control and COMET II.
• Provide technical review/input at all stages of capital projects including scoping, design, and commissioning.
• Support control platforms including: WonderWare, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000/5, and RS PanelView.
• Deliver technical training and advancement reviews for Operations personnel.
• Coordinate and supervise third-party vendors performing work on plant systems.
• Implement action plans for vendor-issued technical service bulletins.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work independently with limited supervision.
What You Will Do
Education:
Associate degree in Electronics, Industrial Automation, or Computer Technology; or
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science (preferred); or
Equivalent relevant experience.
Experience / Knowledge:
Minimum of 1 year of experience with industrial automation systems in an operations or maintenance setting.
Working knowledge of gas compression facilities and rotating equipment (reciprocating engines, turbines, electric motors).
Familiarity with emissions systems, air and water systems, and medium voltage distribution systems.
Experience with commissioning/start-up of compressor or industrial facilities is a plus.
Proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic and structured text), especially Rockwell RSLogix 5 and 5000.
Proficiency in HMI/SCADA programming - WonderWare preferred.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and DOT 49 CFR Part 192.
Strong planning, organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Must pass background check and drug screening post-offer.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Must be able to work outdoors in extreme conditions across all seasons.
Ability to enter confined spaces and work from elevated platforms or ladders.
Must be able to lift 30 lbs awkwardly and up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
Must be able to see, hear, walk, and communicate clearly.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to travel up to 50% (regional).
Travel includes overnight and occasional weekend work.
Must carry a company-provided cell phone and respond to callouts and emergencies.
Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
