Now Hiring: Life Skills Mentor – Youth Residential
Location: Washington County, MD
Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour
Available Schedule:
  • Full-Time Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM, which includes weekend hours.
Work Setting: Residential group homes located throughout Washington County, MD

The Arc of Washington County is seeking compassionate and dedicated Life Skills Mentors to support adolescents in our Youth Residential Program. Position Overview
As a Life Skills Mentor, you will support youth ages 16–20 in a group home setting as they build independence and life skills. This role requires patience, consistency, and the ability to remain calm and composed during challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support daily living skills, including hygiene, cleaning, and overnight routines
  • Provide structure, supervision, and behavioral support
  • Respond appropriately to verbal and physical behaviors using approved techniques
  • Administer medications in accordance with training and policy
  • Ensure safety and maintain a calm, supportive environment during overnight hours
  • Build positive relationships that promote trust, confidence, and independence

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license held for at least 2 years (permit time excluded)
  • Mental health and behavioral management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with youth who may exhibit verbal or physical aggression is a plus
  • Ability to set healthy boundaries and remain calm under pressure
  • Physically able to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs
  • Willing to complete 3 weeks and 2 days of paid new hire training (Mon–Fri, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM)
