What are Overnight Cleaners?

Overnight Cleaners are professionals responsible for cleaning and maintaining facilities during nighttime hours, typically after regular business operations have ended. Their duties often include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, sanitizing restrooms, and restocking supplies. Working overnight allows them to clean areas without disrupting daytime activities and ensures that the premises are ready for use the next day. This role is essential for maintaining hygiene and a pleasant environment in places like offices, schools, hospitals, and retail stores.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

Most jobs that pay $2000 a day are high-level positions such as specialized medical professionals, senior executives, or skilled trades like pilots or certain consultants. These roles typically require extensive experience, advanced certifications, or specialized skills, and often involve long hours or high responsibility. For an overnight cleaner, such high daily pay is uncommon unless working as a contractor or in a highly specialized environment with premium rates.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An overnight cleaner typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized skills or management responsibilities. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often involve entrepreneurship, sales, real estate, or skilled trades, which may require experience, certifications, or a strong network rather than formal degrees.

What hours do night cleaners work?

Night cleaners typically work during overnight hours, often from late evening to early morning, such as 10 PM to 6 AM or midnight to 8 AM. These shifts are scheduled to minimize disruption during business hours and may vary depending on the employer and facility needs.

What is the difference between Overnight Cleaner vs Janitor?

AspectOvernight CleanerJanitor
CredentialsNone typically required, may have basic cleaning certificationsOften similar, may require basic certifications or experience
Work EnvironmentCommercial buildings, offices, retail spaces during off-hoursSimilar environments, including schools, hospitals, and public facilities
Employer & IndustryBusinesses, cleaning companies, facilities managementPublic and private facilities, maintenance services
Work HoursNight shifts, usually overnightDay, evening, or night shifts depending on the facility

Both Overnight Cleaners and Janitors perform cleaning tasks in commercial or public spaces, often during off-hours. While their roles overlap significantly, Overnight Cleaners specifically work during nighttime hours, focusing on cleaning after business hours. Janitors may work during various shifts and often handle broader maintenance duties. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right role based on work hours and responsibilities.

What Does an Overnight Cleaner Do?

As an overnight cleaner, you work in an office or facility after hours, performing cleaning and maintenance duties. Your responsibilities include dusting surfaces and fixtures, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, washing windows, and cleaning bathrooms. You monitor inventory and stock of cleaning supplies, empty trash cans, and complete other cleaning tasks as needed. You may make minor repairs or adjustments, and notify management for larger projects or issues. You may also use heavy equipment like a floor buffer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Overnight Cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight Cleaner, you need attention to detail, reliability, and basic knowledge of cleaning protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning machinery, chemical handling, and safety procedures is typically required, and some employers may request OSHA certification. Strong time management, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure thorough cleaning standards are met efficiently and safely during night shifts when supervision is limited.

What are some common challenges faced by overnight cleaners, and how can they be managed?

Overnight cleaners often work with minimal supervision and in largely empty facilities, which can make the shift feel isolating and physically demanding. Adjusting to the overnight schedule may also be challenging, requiring good time-management and self-care to maintain a healthy sleep routine. To manage these challenges, it's helpful to establish a consistent sleep schedule, use checklists to stay organized, and communicate regularly with supervisors to address any issues that arise during the shift.

What is the highest paying cleaning?

In cleaning jobs, specialized roles such as industrial or hazardous materials cleaners tend to offer higher pay due to the skills and safety training required. Additionally, supervisory or management positions in cleaning services often have higher salaries compared to entry-level cleaning roles. Certifications and experience can also influence earning potential in the cleaning industry.

Current per-night rates are $250 when assigned as Lead and $200 when assigned as Assistant.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will:

  • Clean and perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including coils, blower assemblies, drain pans, and related components.
  • Inspect refrigeration units for dirt buildup, leaks, component wear, contamination, and conditions that may require repair or replacement.
  • Remove, clean, and reinstall parts and components using hand tools, specialized cleaning agents, and cleaning equipment.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report system issues observed during service, including leaks, damage, contamination, performance concerns, or safety risks.
  • Read, understand, and follow customer SOPs, site-specific instructions, BFC procedures, and applicable OSHA safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate service records and communicate professionally with facility managers, commercial clients, coworkers, and service teams.
What We Are Looking For

Candidates should be comfortable with overnight travel, physical field work, customer-facing service, and working independently with limited supervision.

Required

  • Proficiency with hand tools, including drills and screwdrivers, and the ability to perform basic mechanical tasks.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow customer SOPs, service instructions, safety procedures, and site-specific requirements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90%+ of the time, work overnight, share hotel accommodations with a coworker, and be away from home for seasonal assignments.
  • Willingness to work up to six nights per week during active project periods and stand/work 8+ hours per shift.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record for company vehicle usage.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, handling tools, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.

  • Experience cleaning evaporator coils, condenser coils, blower assemblies, drain pans, and related HVAC or refrigeration components.
  • Working knowledge of inspecting refrigeration units for dirt buildup, leaks, component wear, and repair or replacement needs.
  • Experience using specialized cleaning agents and equipment to safely remove debris, mold, and contaminants.
  • Knowledge of EPA refrigerant handling guidelines is a plus but not required.
Success Measures

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Safe, accurate completion of assigned nightly case cleaning work to BFC and customer standards.
  • Reliable attendance and availability for high-travel seasonal overnight assignments.
  • Timely service documentation and clear reporting of issues, findings, and recommendations.
  • Professional customer interactions and consistent adherence to safety, PPE, chemical, tool, equipment, and vehicle requirements.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This is a field-based, overnight travel role performed at commercial customer locations.

  • Work is performed primarily overnight at customer commercial facilities, including grocery, retail, and refrigeration/HVAC environments.
  • Work may involve exposure to cleaning agents, wet or slippery surfaces, mechanical equipment, refrigerated areas, variable temperatures, and customer-specific site requirements.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8+ hours per shift, and perform physical work including bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, gripping, pushing/pulling, and handling tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques.
  • Team members are generally scheduled home during Memorial Day week, July 4th week, and Labor Day week, subject to business and customer needs.
Equal Opportunity and Important Notices

  • Employment is at-will unless otherwise stated in a signed written agreement.
