Job Summary

The Manager, Gas Compliance supports the execution and continuous improvement of the natural gas regulatory compliance program across CenterPoint Energy's service territory. This role oversees day-to-day compliance activities, supports regulatory audit readiness, and monitors adherence to federal, state, and local pipeline safety regulations.

Reporting to the Director of Gas Compliance, this position works closely with operational teams to translate regulatory requirements into effective processes, manage corrective actions, and promote consistent compliance practices across regions and business units. The Manager also plays a key role in strengthening compliance monitoring, improving regulatory processes, and supporting safe and reliable gas operations.

Essential Functions
  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of the natural gas regulatory compliance program, ensuring alignment with PHMSA, DOT, state PUC, and other applicable pipeline safety regulations.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements and changes, maintain compliance documentation, and communicate regulatory impacts to operational teams.
  • Coordinate preparation for regulatory audits, inspections, and investigations, ensuring timely responses, documentation, and follow-up on findings.
  • Manage corrective action tracking and closure, facilitate root cause analysis, and support risk mitigation strategies to address compliance gaps.
  • Partner with Gas Operations, Engineering, and Operational Standards to align procedures, work practices, and technical standards with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the preparation and validation of regulatory reports, compliance metrics, and dashboards, while analyzing data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams including Operations, Engineering, Safety, GIS, Legal, and Capital Delivery to ensure projects and operational activities meet regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in incident review processes and regulatory communications, supporting continuous improvement and regulatory readiness.
Education Description

Bachelor's degree required; preferred fields include Engineering, Environmental Science, Regulatory Affairs, Business, or related technical discipline.

Professional certifications in compliance, regulatory affairs, PE, PMP, or Six Sigma are a plus.

Experience
  • Minimum seven (7)+ years of experience in natural gas operations, pipeline safety, regulatory compliance, or related energy infrastructure fields 
  • Two (2) + years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits, inspections, or compliance monitoring activities
  • Familiarity with PHMSA, DOT pipeline safety regulations (Parts 190-199), and state regulatory environments.
  • Utility or pipeline operator experience strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
Working Conditions
  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's All Hazards Emergency Operation Plan (AHOP).
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
  • Able to travel occasionally overnight.
  • Able to work in an office environment.
