Job description

Lead the store through its evening and late-night business operations.

Princeton University Store is seeking an Overnight Sales Lead to provide Assistant Store Manager-level leadership at the University Place location. This role is ideal for a confident retail leader who can develop people, serve customers, protect the business, and lead independently during shifts that may extend until 3:00 a.m.

POSITION SNAPSHOT

Reports To: General Manager, Stores

Supervises: Sales associates during assigned shifts

Employment Type: Full-time, hourly

Schedule: Primarily evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and peak university periods; shifts may extend until 3:00 a.m.

Work Location: 36 University Place, Princeton, NJ 08540

Salary Range: Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Princeton University Store is an independent omnichannel retailer serving the Princeton University community through two stores, ecommerce, campus events, and pop-up retail.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

The Overnight Sales Lead is the senior leader in the building during assigned shifts and is accountable for customer experience, team performance, sales-floor standards, cash controls, safety, and a successful close. This role requires visible leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to keep the business moving when senior leaders are not onsite.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Customers receive welcoming, professional service throughout the evening.
  • Associates understand expectations, remain engaged, and complete assigned work with accountability.
  • The store closes safely and completely with accurate cash reconciliation and strong operating controls.
  • The sales floor is recovered, replenished, clean, and ready for the next business day.
  • WHAT YOU DO
  • Serve as the senior Manager on Duty, set shift priorities, deploy the team, and adjust coverage as traffic changes.
  • Coach associates on customer engagement, selling behaviors, productivity, attendance, and conduct.
  • Resolve customer concerns and make appropriate service, safety, and operational decisions.
  • Lead recovery, replenishment, merchandising, cleaning, and closing routines across the store.
  • Complete and enforce cashhandling, deposit, refund, lossprevention, security, and buildingclosing procedures.
  • Document results, incidents, staffing concerns, and incomplete work for the General Manager, Stores and opening team.
  • WHAT YOU BRING
  • Three or more years of retail experience, including supervisory or management responsibility.
  • Experience serving as Manager on Duty or independently leading a retail operation.
  • Strong customerservice, coaching, communication, organization, and problemsolving skills.
  • Experience with cash handling, closing, replenishment, inventory, and store operations.
  • Sound judgment in urgent or ambiguous situations, dependable attendance, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to remain mobile throughout the store and regularly lift or move merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds.
