Job Summary:

Thayer Power & Communication Company is a premier service provider in the Power and Fiber construction industries. Having an experienced team allows the company to provide excellent customer service and to be a true partner to its clients from concept to reality.  We are actively seeking an experienced Fleet Mechanic at our Corporate Headquarters in Pataskala, Ohio.  The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and equipment used in power utility contracting operations. Our fleet includes pick-ups, bucket trucks, digger derricks, excavators, trailers, and other related utility construction equipment. The mechanic ensures all fleet assets meet safety, compliance, and operational standards to support field crews in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and DOT inspections on Class 1–8 vehicles and utility-specific equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service and equipment repair records and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations.
  • Coordinate with operations to schedule repairs and reduce vehicle downtime.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot engine and systems issues.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, following OSHA and company safety procedures.
  • Stay current with evolving vehicle technologies and participate in ongoing training.
  • Perform inspections on trucks and trailers to assure vehicles are DOT compliant, safe and road worthy.
  • Some welding and minor body repair.
  • Diagnose and repair of hydraulic systems, gas and diesel engines, truck chassis, air/ electric brakes systems, and electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Maintain shop area in a neat and orderly fashion to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience working as a mechanic. Freightliner, Cummins, Altec, Terex, Chevrolet, Vermeer experience a plus.
  • ANSI & Dielectric Inspection Certificates a plus.
  • Overtime will be required at times and schedules will vary some weeks. Must be flexible.
  • Road calls will be required as needed.
  • Must have your own tools.
  • Must be self-sufficient and driven with regular and predictable attendance, with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to Company Safety Policies
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English and respond to emails professionally.
  • Ability to work weekends and travel to support storm crews; may include possible overnight stays.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
