Overnight Advocates often work independently during late hours, which can present challenges such as managing crisis situations, ensuring client safety, and maintaining alertness throughout the shift. New hires can prepare by familiarizing themselves with the organization's protocols, practicing effective self-care to remain alert, and developing strong communication skills to de-escalate tense situations. Building a support network with co-workers and supervisors is also helpful, as it provides guidance and reassurance when handling complex cases during overnight hours.

To thrive as an Overnight Advocate, you need a background in social services, crisis intervention, or related fields, often supported by relevant training or certification in trauma-informed care. These skills ensure effective support, safety, and advocacy for individuals in crisis, especially when resources may be limited overnight.
