AUI Power is looking for a skilled, self-motivated, dependable and hardworking team player who can join our company as an Overhead Groundhand.


Primary Role:

An overhead line crew groundhand assists linemen and equipment operators in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead power lines, performing tasks such as loading and unloading materials, digging trenches and pole holes, preparing poles, installing ground rods, and maintaining a clean and safe job site. This entry-level role requires physical stamina, knowledge of hand and power tools, a strong commitment to safety protocols, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Key Responsibilities

  • Material and Tool Handling: Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials for the job site. 
  • Site Preparation: Dig holes and trenches for poles, anchors, and conduit, and backfill them once work is completed. 
  • Equipment and Material Preparation: Prepare poles and other hardware by attaching necessary components like insulators, wires, and brackets. 
  • Line Installation: Assist in stringing and pulling wires and cables by hand or using appropriate mechanical means. 
  • Safety and Site Maintenance: Act as a spotter for line workers and equipment, ensure the job site is clean and organized, and adhere to all safety guidelines. 
  • Grounding: Install ground rods and connect ground wires according to specifications. 

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Physical Stamina: The ability to perform physically demanding construction duties. 
  • Tool Proficiency: Knowledge of hand and power tools used in line work. 
  • Safety Awareness: A thorough understanding and adherence to OSHA and company safety standards. 
  • Teamwork: The ability to work effectively as part of a line crew, following directions from supervisors. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Require good mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Require valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 150 days
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen
  • Able to lift up to 100lbs.
  • Able to travel for out of town work
  • Able to work nights and weekends if required
