Project/Outreach Coordinator - ONR

Location: Herndon, VA / Remote

Position Overview

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is seeking a highly motivated and organized Project/Outreach Coordinator to support Naval STEM outreach initiatives. This role will focus on event planning, community engagement, and communication efforts to promote STEM opportunities within the Department of the Navy (DON). The ideal candidate will have experience in outreach, event management, and content creation, with a strong ability to communicate effectively and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage STEM outreach events including career fairs, student competitions, family STEM events, and naval air shows.
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for communicating DON STEM opportunities such as SEAP, NREIP, SMART, NDSEG, and other relevant programs to students and families.
  • Coordinate with naval sites across the Department of the Navy to ensure smooth execution of outreach activities.
  • Manage ordering, delivery, and distribution of outreach materials including program flyers, promotional items, banners, and student engagement supplies.
  • Develop and implement social media strategies to enhance community engagement and promote STEM initiatives.
  • Create clear, effective written and verbal communications for diverse audiences.
  • Maintain and utilize Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, Excel) to support project tracking, reporting, and collaboration.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in outreach, customer service, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Current SECRET clearance or ability to obtain one prior to award.
  • Recent experience with event planning and management, social media strategy, community engagement, interpersonal skills, and content creation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Government, Department of Defense (DoD), or Department of the Navy (DON) internship programs.
  • Participation in STEM conferences, career fairs, student competitions, and family-related STEM events.
  • Familiarity with Naval STEM outreach programs and initiatives.
