What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Outfitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Outfitter, you need in-depth knowledge of outdoor activities, local geography, and safety protocols, often supported by relevant experience or specialized training in guiding or outdoor leadership. Familiarity with navigation tools, GPS devices, first aid certifications, and outdoor equipment is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills help build trust with clients and ensure positive experiences. These skills are crucial for leading safe, enjoyable, and memorable outdoor adventures while maintaining client satisfaction and safety.

What are some common challenges outfitters face when coordinating outdoor excursions for clients?

Outfitters often encounter challenges such as unpredictable weather conditions, ensuring client safety, and managing equipment logistics. Balancing client expectations with real-world limitations—like changes in trail accessibility or wildlife encounters—requires strong communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, outfitters must work closely with guides, suppliers, and local authorities to deliver a seamless and enjoyable experience. Adaptability and proactive planning are essential to overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful outings.

This is a print-focused role centered on developing original textile artwork and repeat patterns for apparel.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in growing the brand, bringing fresh, trend-forward ideas to life through compelling yardage prints, engineered placements, and surface design that elevate our seasonal collections. The ideal candidate is inspired by streetwear, contemporary fashion, and lifestyle trends and knows how to translate that inspiration into authentic, playful, and brand-right textile designs that feel true to the Out From Under aesthetic.
Role Responsibilities
  • Develop original graphics, illustrations, and prints for apparel and accessories that reflect the Out From Under aesthetic.
  • Collaborate closely with the Women's Design, Merchandising, and Trend teams to ensure cohesive seasonal collections.
  • Translate brand concepts, trend research, and seasonal themes into innovative graphics and print design.
  • Source and manipulate materials, patterns, and textures for print execution.
  • Work with production teams to prepare print-ready files for screen printing, digital printing, embroidery, and other decoration methods.
  • Stay on top of streetwear, fashion, and lifestyle trends to ensure designs remain relevant and culturally resonant.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high creative standards.

Role Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Textile Design, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in apparel graphic/print design, preferably in women's lifestyle brand.
  • Strong understanding of trend forecasting, color theory, typography, and illustration.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Experience with CAD and print production processes is a plus.
  • Strong conceptual and visual storytelling skills, with the ability to translate brand voice into design.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and collaborative with excellent communication skills.
  • Hybrid role, 3 days a week in Philadelphia
