The Outdoor Pursuits Department plays a vital role in creating unforgettable experiences for guests and members, showcasing the natural beauty of the region through guided activities such as hiking, biking, UTV tours, climbing, and other recreation-based excursions.

Job Summary

The Guide – Outdoor Pursuits at Black Desert Resort is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and memorable outdoor activities for resort guests and members. This role delivers exceptional service by providing expert instruction, local knowledge, and personalized adventure experiences in alignment with the resort’s luxury standards. Reporting to the Outdoor Pursuits Manager or Lead Guide, the Guide ensures every excursion is safe, educational, and inspiring while reflecting the high-touch service of Black Desert Resort.

Job Specifications

Onsite: Black Desert Resort
Shift & Schedule Availability: Year-Round / On-Call
Pay Rate: $19 - $21/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Key Responsibilities including but not limited to

  • Lead guided excursions such as hiking, biking, UTV tours, climbing, and other outdoor recreation activities.
  • Provide expert knowledge of local terrain, flora, fauna, geology, and cultural history to enrich guest experiences.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with resort safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Conduct pre-activity safety briefings and enforce proper use of equipment and protective gear.
  • Assist guests with varying fitness and skill levels, adapting pace and difficulty as needed.
  • Manage group dynamics, ensuring inclusivity, safety, and enjoyment for all participants.
  • Maintain, clean, and inspect outdoor equipment, vehicles, and gear to ensure proper functionality.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, Outdoor Pursuits leadership, and other departments regarding schedules, guest requests, and emergencies.
  • Respond to unexpected situations such as medical needs, weather changes, or trail hazards with calm and professional judgment.
  • Provide exceptional guest service by anticipating needs, offering personalized recommendations, and engaging in professional, enthusiastic communication.
  • Attend mandatory orientations and trainings.
  • Support resort-wide recreation and wellness programming as needed.

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in guiding, outdoor recreation, or hospitality roles preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of outdoor safety practices, trail etiquette, and local geography.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required; Wilderness First Responder or similar advanced certification preferred.
  • Valid Utah driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required for operating UTVs and shuttle vehicles).
  • Ability to instruct and motivate diverse groups of guests in outdoor activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive, guest-focused demeanor.
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
