Job Description
Guided by our core values, Radford University thrives in an environment where community, collaboration and inclusiveness are valued. The Outdoor Program coordinator will serve as a member of the professional staff for the Department of Student Recreation and Wellness and be a vital part of the Outdoor Program. This position will manage the day-to-day operations for Outdoor Programs, including climbing wall operations, equipment rental office, and trip leading. Additionally, this position will aid the Assistant Director with the administration and management of the operational and programmatic aspects of Radford University's Outdoor Program. This may include, but is not limited to: coordinating logistics and risk management for programs, recruiting, supervising, training, and evaluating student staff, and programmatic development. The coordinator will oversee approximately 20 student employees. This position is expected to provide exemplary customer service, communication skills, transformational student development, and high-quality experiential learning programs. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, this position will assist in the marketing and promotion of programs and services, assessment and direction of programs, special events, campus partnerships, and purchasing and budgeting. All members of the Recreation & Wellness staff work to advance the Models of Practice for the Division of Student Affairs and Radford University's commitment our student population. Further, staff members advance the department's safety and risk management initiatives in order to create a positive and safe environment; promote the department's Vivid Vision for Recreation and Wellness.
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated record of outdoor programming and recreation
• Significant experience in leading and managing group outdoor trips (backpacking, rock climbing, caving, canoeing etc.)
• Demonstrated knowledge in risk management and safety best practices
• Experience in student engagement, event planning, presentation or teaching skills
• Strong computer skills, social media experience and communication skills.
• Excellent customer service, and demonstrated ability to manage conflicts, and create an inclusive environment
• Experience using Innosoft Fusion and/or point of sale software.
• An advanced degree in a related field or a bachelor's degree with experience and training equating to an advanced degree.
Required Certifications
• Wilderness First Aid• CPR / First Aid
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with instruction and logistics work from organizations such as Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School.
Preferred Certifications CPR and First Aid instructor.
Certification in one on more of the following:
• Single Pitch Instructor through the AMGA or PCIA or experience equivalent to or beyond
• Leave No Trace Master Educator
• Climbing Wall Instructor
• Swift Water Rescue Instructor
