Position: Swim Instructors (2)

Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programs

Position Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: M-F (Approx. 2:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M.); April 2026-October 2026


Foothill Country Day School is currently seeking two experienced Swim Instructors to help children develop proper swimming techniques and skills. The Swim Instructors responsibilities include evaluating student performance during swim sessions and providing feedback, completing attendance, progress, and incident reports, and ensuring that all swimming aids and equipment are functioning properly.

The successful candidate will demonstrate patience and enthusiasm and be able to motivate students to accomplish their swimming goals. The Swim Instructor should be able to communicate effectively with students and ensure that all water safety rules are adhered to.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities
  • Plan swimming lessons that take into account each students abilities and progressive development
  • Identify incorrect swimming techniques and correct students accordingly
  • Assist advanced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities
  • Assess the progress of students and adjust instructional practices accordingly
  • Implement ground rules for each swim session
  • Monitor students to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Report accidents and incidents to supervisor, and complete required documentation and paperwork
  • Interact with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students swim skills and progress
  • Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues, and reports issues to supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain and ensure proper storage and cleanliness of all pool equipment and locker rooms

The ideal candidate will have the following educational and work background:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year of experience working as a Swim Instructor
  • CPR, First Aid, and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) certifications
  • Lifeguard certification required (current certificate from an American Red Cross or YMCA of the U.S.A. lifeguard training program, or equivalent certification)
  • Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, procedures, and water safety rules
  • Knowledge of and experience with water rescue safety equipment and devices
