Description


The Metal Recycling General Laborer/Scrap Processor is responsible for purchasing and processing ferrous and non-Ferrous materials. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Purchase and process miscellaneous scrap metal items from customers
  • Drain fluids from vehicles (gas, oil, transmission fluid, etc.)
  • Dismantle/disassemble or take apart insulated wiring, scrap components
  • Process ferrous and non-ferrous metals with chopsaw/reciprocating saw or other tools
  • Prepare/downsize oversized pieces of metal with plasma cutter or oxy/propane torch 
  • Move metal scraps to different areas of the yard via forklift, skidsteer, etc. 
  • Prepare and ensure quality control on outbound loads
  • Identify various scrap materials and grade accordingly
  • Ensure trucks are inspected, checked for density, identified, weighed and logged
  • Identify non-conforming or unacceptable types of scrap material
  • Ensure a clean and orderly workplace; clean and prepare site by removing debris and possible hazards
  • Monitor current marketplace information on pricing and scrap availability and adjusts accordingly
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONs:

  • Excellent Customer Service
  • Strong work ethic and punctual attendance
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of scrap metal recycling industry a plus
  • Previous forklift/skidsteer experience preferred
