Outbound Associate information

What is an outbound associate?

Outbound Associates are warehouse or logistics professionals responsible for preparing and shipping orders to customers or retail locations. Their tasks typically include picking items, packing products securely, labeling packages, and ensuring shipments meet quality and accuracy standards. Outbound Associates often use scanning equipment and work closely with inventory and shipping teams. This role is essential in maintaining efficient supply chain operations and ensuring timely delivery of products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an outbound associate?

To thrive as an Outbound Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in inventory management or warehouse operations, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and shipping software is typically required. Reliability, teamwork, and effective communication are valuable soft skills that enhance performance in this role. These skills ensure efficient order processing, accurate shipments, and smooth coordination within fast-paced distribution environments.

What are some common challenges outbound associates face and how can they be addressed?

Outbound Associates often encounter challenges such as meeting strict shipping deadlines, accurately processing high volumes of orders, and maintaining organization in a fast-paced warehouse environment. To overcome these, it's important to develop strong time management skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with team members and supervisors. Many companies provide on-the-job training and utilize technology such as barcode scanners and inventory management systems to help associates work efficiently and reduce errors.

Join Our Team

Ventura Manufacturing is looking for a dependable Production & Shipping Associate to work in a highly independent manufacturing environment. This role combines production, quality verification, forklift operation, packaging, and shipping responsibilities to support the production and shipment of counterweights used in filing cabinet products.

Working in a small team environment, you'll be responsible for producing customer orders, operating equipment, verifying counts, packaging shipments, and loading outbound trucks. Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety are critical to success in this role.

What You'll Do
  • Operate a drill press and hand-held drills to create holes in counterweight blocks according to customer specifications
  • Read work instructions and order documentation to determine drilling and packaging requirements
  • Count and verify parts to ensure order accuracy before shipment
  • Print and apply shipping labels
  • Scan and track orders using handheld scanners
  • Package finished products for shipment
  • Operate a gas-powered forklift (hilo) to move materials and load outbound trucks
  • Stage completed orders at the shipping dock
  • Perform routine quality checks throughout the production process
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating with a small team
What Makes Someone Successful

The right person for this role:

  • Takes ownership of their work and stays productive without constant supervision
  • Has strong attention to detail and understands the importance of shipping the correct product every time
  • Is comfortable performing repetitive tasks while maintaining quality standards
  • Enjoys a combination of production, forklift, and shipping responsibilities
  • Communicates well and works effectively with a small team
  • Values safety and follows established procedures
Requirements:

  • Previous forklift (hilo) experience
  • Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, production, or shipping environments
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions
  • Basic computer skills for printing labels and processing orders
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions throughout the day
  • Strong counting and verification skills
Preferred
  • Drill press or machine operation experience
  • Shipping and receiving experience
  • Experience with barcode scanners or inventory systems
  • Experience loading and unloading trucks
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Handle individual counterweight pieces weighing approximately 14-32 pounds throughout the shift
  • Perform repetitive lifting, carrying, counting, and packaging activities
  • Stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday
  • Work in a dusty manufacturing environment where asphalt-based materials are processed
  • Comfortable working in warm conditions during portions of the year
  • Steel-toe footwear required (Ventura can provide temporary toe caps for new team members as needed)
  • Personal protective equipment, including gloves and safety glasses, is provided
Production Expectations

This position supports daily customer orders averaging approximately 600-1,000 parts per day. Accuracy is just as important as productivity. Shipping errors or incorrect quantities can impact customers and create additional work throughout the organization, making attention to detail a critical part of the role.
