About the role
The Outbound Associate plays a vital role as a member of the Shipping Team, helping fulfill DecksDirect's mission: Enable every customer to feel confident and supported by making railing projects feel effortless from beginning to end.
This position is responsible for accurately and efficiently picking, packing, staging, and shipping customer orders, including both parcel and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments. The Outbound Associate ensures products are handled safely, shipped accurately, and delivered according to DecksDirect quality standards.
This role requires strong attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment. The Outbound Associate contributes directly to customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and the company's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Communication
  • Communicate effectively with Operations leadership, Supervisors, Team Leads, and fellow DecksDirect team members.
  • Participate in department start-up, end-of-shift, and team meetings to ensure proper communication and handoff of critical information.
  • Communicate safety concerns, operational issues, and inventory discrepancies to distribution center leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support daily operational goals.
Execution
  • Accurately pick, pack, stage, and prepare customer orders for shipment following DecksDirect outbound standards.
  • Process both parcel and LTL shipments according to established procedures.
  • Safely transfer products to various warehouse locations as needed.
  • Ensure products are picked, packed, and shipped without damage.
  • Verify inventory accuracy and ensure correct products and quantities are selected for each order.
  • Perform stock replenishment and product put-away activities.
  • Report inventory variances and discrepancies to the Inventory Control team.
  • Assist with packaging, palletizing, banding, and securing large shipments.
  • Operate warehouse equipment and utilize power tools as required, including saws and nail guns.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on shipping efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Perform other warehouse-related duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations
  • Complete outbound order fulfillment activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain high standards for order accuracy and shipment quality.
  • Meet productivity and quality metrics established by department leadership.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and operational procedures.
Development
  • Participate in Distribution Center continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete cross-training in additional warehouse functions to support operational flexibility.
  • Develop proficiency across parcel, LTL, inventory movement, and shipping processes.
Qualifications
Must Haves
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
  • Previous warehouse, shipping, fulfillment, or distribution experience.
  • Experience handling LTL shipments.
  • Experience using power tools, including saws and nail guns.
  • Experience operating material handling equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally team lift or move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment.
Working Environment
  • Full-Time
  • Hourly / Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime) at $18.00/hr
  • Monday-Friday with additional hours as business needs require
  • Internal position; not remote or telecommute eligible
