What is an OSHA internship?

An OSHA Internship is a temporary position designed for students or recent graduates interested in occupational safety and health. Interns assist with workplace inspections, compliance reviews, and safety training to ensure adherence to OSHA regulations. These internships help build foundational knowledge in workplace safety and can lead to careers in occupational health and compliance.

What are the common responsibilities of an OSHA intern?

OSHA Interns are typically involved in a variety of hands-on projects, such as conducting safety inspections, assisting with risk assessments, collecting and analyzing data on workplace hazards, and helping to develop safety training materials. Interns often work closely with experienced safety professionals, participating in team meetings, audits, and creating reports to support compliance initiatives. This dynamic role provides valuable experience in applying OSHA standards and learning about real-world safety challenges across different industries. Gaining exposure to both field and office tasks, interns develop a well-rounded understanding of occupational health and safety practices, which supports future career opportunities in the field.

What skills and qualifications are needed for an OSHA internship?

To thrive in OSHA Internships, you should possess foundational knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, strong research skills, and be pursuing or have recently completed a relevant degree such as occupational health, safety, or environmental science. Familiarity with OSHA standards, hazard assessment tools, and basic data analysis software like Excel is often required. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication help interns excel in workplace safety audits and team collaborations. These competencies are essential for ensuring compliance, identifying hazards, and contributing meaningfully to workplace safety initiatives.

Does OSHA offer internships?

OSHA offers internships for students and recent graduates interested in workplace safety and health. These internships typically involve research, policy development, and outreach activities, often requiring applicants to meet specific educational and age criteria.
