Job description

We are seeking a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon for a high-priority locum assignment in Mason City, Iowa, covering two required date blocks in March and April. This is an excellent opportunity with strong clinical support, Level III trauma exposure, and Epic EMR.


Position Overview
  • Position Type: Locum Tenens

    • Clinic Days: Monday–Friday

    • Clinic Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

    • On Call: Yes (24-hour call)

    • Weekends: N/A


REQUIRED Coverage Dates

⚠️ Candidate must be able to cover both blocks

  • March 13 @ 7:00 AM – March 24 @ 7:00 AM

  • April 23 @ 7:00 AM – April 28 @ 7:00 AM


Practice & Call Details
  • Inpatient rounding on post-op patients

  • Inpatient & ED consults

  • OR coverage

  • 24-hour orthopedic call with follow-up clinic on own patients

  • Trauma Level: III

  • Average Hospital Census: ~160 patients/day (mainly consults)

  • EMR: Epic


Team & Support
  • Physicians: 4

  • Advanced Practice Providers: 7

  • APP Supervision Required: Yes

  • Staffing Support:

    • 1 nurse per provider

    • 3 cast techs / 7 providers

    • 3 receptionists / 7 providers

    • 2 surgery schedulers / 7 providers

  • Exam Rooms: 2 exam rooms + 3 cast rooms per provider


Required Procedures & Skills

Candidates must be comfortable performing:

  • Total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements

  • Hand, wrist, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and foot surgeries

  • Trauma injuries & fracture care

  • Sports medicine and general orthopedic disorders


MANDATORY Requirements
  • Board Certified Orthopedic Surgery ONLY (Board Eligible not accepted)

  • Active Iowa license OR Active IMLC (LOQ required)

  • Clean malpractice & background

  • NPDB Self-Query (pulled within 30 days at submission)

  • Ability to cover both required date blocks

  • Full procedural competency as listed above
