Job Overview
Inside Sales associates are expected to maintain a positive representation of Secor Lumber by providing an outstanding customer service experience, both in person and by phone, consistent with company values. The main task of a sales associate is to assist customers with their building and supply needs, and maintain a clean and efficient work space, sales floor, and showroom environment. They must be willing to continually learn and expand their knowledge of products, assembly, and retailing. Their job will include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide excellent customer service assisting customers with project planning and product selections both in-stock and special order. In-store routines include answering questions, researching products, locating merchandise, and suggesting add-on sales that will help them complete projects. This also includes processing special orders.
  • Create an inviting environment for customers by maintaining a clean and orderly sales floor and showroom, including housekeeping tasks.
  • Notify customers of upcoming promotions and new products.
  • Assist with loading products into customer's vehicles as needed.
  • Assisting retail staff helping merchandise products, maintain signage, restock shelves as necessary, and taking regular inventory of stock.
  • Face and front product throughout the store as time permits throughout the day.
  • Help store staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Be vigilant to identify shoplifters and other types of theft. Respond with appropriate action, according to store policy.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Adhere to all store policies and safety standards.
  • Be able to perform functions of Customer Service, Hardware Store ADVANCED, and Customer Service, Hardware Store BASIC.
  • Monitor and facilitate staging of orders for customer pick-up and deliveries
  • Ongoing personal skill and knowledge advancement, including travel to off-site events.
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience: Minimum one (1) year of similar customer service experience or equivalent.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in at least one of masonry & structural steel, lumber & structural panels, roofing & siding, doors & windows, insulation & drywall, floor coverings & interior trims, cabinetry & stairs, and general knowledge and skill in multiple categories.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
  • Organized, self-starter who thinks independently and solves problems.
  • Knowledge of effective sales methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of or aptitude for point-of-sale and multiple vendor-provided systems in order to assist with price lookup, special orders, and order entry.
  • Strong math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Compensation: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
