Job description

Buyer / Purchasing Specialist – Electrical Components
Saint Paul, MN | Direct Hire | $70,000-$85,000 + Bonus

Konik is partnering with an innovative engineering and manufacturing company seeking a Buyer / Purchasing Specialist to support the procurement of electrical components, connectors, and manufacturing materials. This role will manage supplier relationships, purchasing activities, and material availability while partnering closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

The ideal candidate will have purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage supplier performance, negotiate terms, and ensure materials are available to support production schedules. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of key commodity categories and contribute to a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing operation.

Buyer Responsibilities

  • Analyze ERP and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) requirements to support purchasing decisions and production needs.
  • Identify, qualify, and manage suppliers for electrical components, connectors, and related commodities.
  • Create and manage purchase orders while negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, and purchasing terms.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data and provide timely updates to internal teams.
  • Partner with Engineering and Assembly teams to understand product specifications and communicate requirements to suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, and material availability.
  • Work with Quality and suppliers to resolve material issues and initiate corrective actions when needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Warehousing, and Accounting teams to resolve inventory, delivery, and invoicing concerns.
  • Take ownership of assigned electrical and connector commodities, including supplier relationships and open purchase orders.

Buyer Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 2+ years of purchasing experience, preferably within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and purchasing activities.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with ERP systems; INFOR ERP experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams.

Buyer Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience purchasing electrical components, connectors, or similar technical commodities.
  • Experience transitioning commodity ownership or taking over an existing buyer's responsibilities.
  • Manufacturing experience supporting engineered products or custom equipment.
