Oracle Database Administrator - Mid Level (US Citizens Only)
As a mid-level database administrator, you will help build, maintain, and support new and existing databases hosted in on-premises environments as well as cloud platforms. Working alongside the senior members of our database team, you will own day-to-day operational support, contribute to migration and upgrade projects, and continue building depth across our multi-RDBMS environment. This role suits a DBA who has mastered core administration tasks and is ready to take on larger, more complex work with growing independence.
DUTIES:
Troubleshoot
  • Monitor database environments, respond to alerts, and escalate complex or high-impact issues to senior DBAs
  • Review alert and error logs to identify and address recurring problems
  • Analyze queries and recommend indexing and tuning improvements
  • Identify and resolve database locks, blocking sessions, and missing or stale statistics
  • Resolve routine data structure issues (invalid objects, tables, partitions, constraints)
  • Deploy patches across database environments following established change management procedures
  • Resolve import/export Data Pump issues

Document
  • Document service requests, changes, and incidents
  • Maintain existing diagrams, architectural documents, SOPs, and run books, and draft new ones for the procedures you perform

Collaborate
  • Collaborate with fellow DBAs, developers, vendors, and professional organizations to deliver quality service
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including occasional after-hours and weekend work for emergencies and deployments
  • Support internal and external customers, corporate IT, and vendor IT, providing a high level of service and moving projects toward completion
  • Contribute to database implementations and project work under the direction of senior team members
  • Lead and execute Oracle database migrations across on-premises, AWS, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environments using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), RMAN, and Data Pump, including migrations to Oracle Exadata, Amazon RDS, and hybrid cloud architectures while ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity

Automate
  • Build and maintain scripts that automate routine operational processes, with accuracy and in compliance with our security requirements

Improve
  • Help support highly scalable, highly available production infrastructure across multiple RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Identify gaps in existing processes and recommend improvements
  • Assist in developing monitoring and support solutions for our database platforms
  • Stay current on new database and cloud technologies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Creative problem-solving skills that require minimal supervisory prompting
  • Ownership of tasks and projects with follow-through to completion

Experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with databases in a corporate environment
  • 3+ years of experience with Oracle installation and support in Linux and Windows environments
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with SQL performance tuning, including execution plan analysis, SQL Tuning Advisor, and indexing strategy
  • 3+ years of experience with database statistics management (e.g. DBMS_STATS) and diagnosing performance issues caused by stale or inaccurate statistics
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience using Oracle Data Pump
  • 2+ years of experience developing and supporting Linux scripting
  • 1+ year of experience in database security: user management, profiles, encryption, and audits
  • 2+ years performing database operational activities including migrations, patching, and database refreshes
  • Working exposure to at least one of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience with cloud providers: AWS (must), Azure (a plus)
  • Exposure to cloud-managed databases (RDS, Aurora)
  • Hands-on experience working with EC2 or comparable compute instances
  • Working knowledge of backup and recovery strategies and tools
  • Familiarity with database high availability and disaster recovery methods for on-premises and cloud deployments
  • Exposure to partitioning and to supporting large databases (multi-terabyte) is a plus
  • Data warehouse exposure is a plus
  • Oracle OCA certification or higher is a plus
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification is a plus
  • ITIL Foundation, Azure Fundamentals, or OCI Foundations certification is a plus

Technologies
  • Experience with one or more RDBMS platforms, with Oracle as the primary
  • Solid experience administering Oracle 12c and 19c databases
