Job description

At Stantec, we have some of the world’s leading professionals passionate about enabling our business to be its best. Our business teams include finance, procurement, human resources, information technology, marketing, corporate development, HSSE, real estate, legal, and practice services. We bring diverse backgrounds, skills, and expertise and create a caring culture where everyone can thrive. Through teamwork and collaboration, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Stantec every day.

Senior Data Architect

We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to join a project team that will be designing new workflows and business processes to optimize and simplify collaboration between Stantec Project Managers and Project Accountants (aka PM2PA). This will involve enhancing and integrating several existing applications [and possibly building new applications] and their databases with a focus on the on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) database and potentially integration with Oracle Cloud services in the future.

In this senior-level role, you will drive the strategic data architecture for the PM2PA application. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the PM2PA data environment – including integration points with our on-premises Oracle EBS system, multiple custom applications and various data sources (including the Stantec Data Store (SDS), a centralized data store with the ability to serve EBS data to consuming applications, and replicate updates back into EBS from those applications).

As a key technical leader, the Senior Data Architect will collaborate with a cross-functional team to align data solutions with PM2PA business objectives, and act as a strategic advisor on leveraging Oracle EBS, various data repositories (e.g., SDS) and potentially cloud technologies to meet the needs of this strategic project. This role requires both deep technical expertise and strong leadership to guide the enterprise through complex data integration and optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture Strategy: Develop and drive the overall data architecture strategy for PM2PA, including designing scalable data models, data integration workflows, and data governance frameworks that meet enterprise standards. Ensure the architecture supports current and future business needs with an emphasis on data quality, consistency, and governance.

Oracle EBS & Cloud Integration: Lead the future integration of PM2PA business processes and workflows with Oracle Fusion Cloud. This includes architecting solutions for data exchange between EBS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or Oracle Cloud applications, using tools like Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) or Oracle SOA Suite to ensure seamless end-to-end business processes.

System Performance & Maintenance: Oversee the performance optimization, scalability and reliability of the PM2PA data flows. This may involve tuning Oracle databases or other key data sources, optimizing application performance and planning capacity for growth. Ensure that data storage, indexing, and retrieval mechanisms are efficient and that disaster recovery and high-availability solutions are in place.

Security and Compliance: Ensure robust data security measures and compliance protocols are implemented across PM2PA, Oracle EBS and integrated cloud environments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other teams – including IT Infrastructure & Operations, Oracle Database Administrators, Software Solutions developers, Business Analysts, and Project Management – to plan and execute PM2PA data-related projects. Act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders for all matters related to PM2PA data, ensuring that technical solutions align with business requirements and timelines. This includes coordinating data migration efforts during EBS upgrades or cloud adoption initiatives and communicating clearly with non-technical stakeholders about data architecture decisions.

Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to database administrators, database developers, and integration specialists on the PM2PA team.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field is required (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).

Experience: 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data analysis, or related IT roles, with significant hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions for Oracle E-Business Suite environments. This should include a track record of leading complex integration projects or ERP data initiatives in large organizations.

Oracle EBS Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) R12 modules, database and architecture. The ideal candidate has worked with multiple EBS functional areas – for example, Oracle Financials (GL, AP, AR), Project Billing and Costing, Human Capital Management – and understands their underlying data structures and interdependencies. You should be familiar with the EBS schema, concurrent processing, and EBS configuration from a data perspective.

Data Modelling: Strong data modelling skills, both relational (3NF) and dimensional (star schema) design. Able to design entity-relationship models for complex enterprise data and use data modelling tools to document and communicate these designs. Knowledge of data warehouse architecture and modelling (e.g., facts/dimensions for BI reporting) is important for EBS data extraction and analysis.

Integration & Middleware: Experience with Oracle integration technologies. This may include Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) for cloud-based integrations, Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Service Bus for service-oriented architecture, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) for ETL tasks, and Oracle REST/SOAP APIs. Familiarity with building data interfaces (using XML, RESTful services, etc.) and synchronizing data between EBS and other applications in real-time or batch mode.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI): Working knowledge of OCI services and architecture. Experience deploying or managing applications on OCI (compute, storage, networking) and using cloud services such as Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) or Oracle Cloud databases in conjunction with EBS is a plus. Understanding of cloud networking (VPN, FastConnect) for connecting on-premises EBS to Oracle Cloud, and exposure to OCI security and identity management concepts.

Data Management & Governance: Familiarity with enterprise data management tools and practices. Knowledge of data integration techniques, data cleansing, and Master Data Management (MDM) solutions to maintain a single source of truth across systems. Experience establishing data standards, dictionaries, and governance policies for an ERP environment.

Analytics & Reporting Tools: Experience with reporting and analytics tools that complement Oracle EBS. For example, ability to work with Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE), Oracle Discoverer (legacy), or Oracle Analytics Cloud to design and deliver reports/dashboards using EBS data. Understanding how to extract and transform EBS data for use in BI platforms, and knowledge of SQL reporting tools or ad-hoc query tools for end-users.

Operating Systems & Scripting: Proficiency in operating the Oracle EBS tech stack on Linux platforms. Able to script and automate tasks (using shell scripting, Python, etc.) for routine maintenance, data file movement, or monitoring. Familiar with tools like AutoConfig, concurrent managers, and other EBS administrative utilities is a plus (though the primary focus is on data, a broad understanding of the application tier helps in designing holistic solutions).

Architecture & Standards: Knowledge of architecture best practices and design patterns, especially in the context of enterprise applications. Familiarity with microservices, API-led architecture, or event-driven architecture is a plus to modernize integration approach. Understanding of TOGAF or similar framework to ensure the architecture aligns with wider enterprise architecture standards is desirable.

Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. The role requires the ability to liaise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders – translating business requirements into technical solutions and articulating complex architectural concepts in plain language. A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence and drive consensus are critical.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Certifications: Relevant certifications are highly valued. Examples include Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Master (OCM) in Oracle Database or E-Business Suite administration, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect certifications, or Oracle EBS specialization certificates. Certifications in IT service management or architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman) are also beneficial, indicating a strong grasp of best practices and frameworks.

Enterprise Architecture & Methodologies: Familiarity with enterprise architecture methodologies and tools. Experience applying frameworks like TOGAF for designing large-scale systems, or involvement in establishing data governance councils or standards in an organization, will be an advantage.

ERP Migration/Upgrade Experience: Hands-on experience in enterprise ERP migration or upgrade projects. Preference will be given to candidates who have been involved in migrating EBS to Oracle Cloud or upgrading from older EBS versions to R12.2+ in a cloud or hybrid environment, as well as those who have managed large data migration activities (for example, moving historical data to a cloud data warehouse or implementing Oracle Cloud SaaS alongside EBS). Such experience demonstrates the ability to handle complex transformations and change management.

Additional Domain Knowledge: Experience with integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Dell Boomi) is an added advantage, as it shows versatility in integrating Oracle EBS within a wider IT landscape. Likewise, knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) practices and tools, or data quality management systems is a plus – ensuring the Senior Data Architect can help drive unified, accurate data across the organization.
