Job description

Title: Oracle Database Engineer

Location:Berkeley Heights, NJ

Position Summary

We are seeking an experiencedOracle Database Engineerto design, implement, migrate, and support mission-critical Oracle database environments across on-premises data centers and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), includingExadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC)andExadata Cloud Service (ExaCS)platforms. This role will be responsible for database engineering, performance optimization, high availability, disaster recovery, automation, security, and cloud migration initiatives while ensuring minimal to zero application downtime through technologies such asOracle Data Guard, GoldenGate, and Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM).

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Oracle database administration, cloud technologies, automation, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and enterprise-scale database operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Oracle Database Administration and Engineering.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale Oracle database environments in both on-premises and cloud infrastructures.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, high availability, security, networking, storage, and disaster recovery solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer and migrate Oracle database environments from on-premises platforms to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, including ExaCC and ExaCS.
  • Design and implement highly available database solutions utilizing Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, Active Data Guard, and GoldenGate.
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize database performance using Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR, ADDM, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, maintenance, failover testing, and disaster recovery validation.
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies for critical databases.
  • Automate operational processes using scripting and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, storage, networking, and security teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, including encryption, key management, and data protection practices.

Technical Requirements

Oracle Database Technologies

  • 5+ years installing, configuring, and administering Oracle Databases (11g, 12c, 19c, and newer versions).
  • 5+ years supporting Oracle databases in OLTP and Data Warehouse environments.
  • 5+ years administering Oracle ASM and RAC.
  • 3+ years administering Oracle Multitenant (CDB/PDB) architecture.
  • 5+ years performing database migrations, upgrades, and rehosting activities with minimal downtime.
  • 5+ years of performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in enterprise Oracle environments.

Operating Systems & Infrastructure

  • Experience with Oracle Streams and other enterprise replication technologies.
  • Experience conducting disaster recovery testing and failover exercises.

Cloud & Migration Technologies

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience migrating Oracle databases to OCI ExaCS/ExaCC using Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) and other cloud migrations, like AWS , AZURE.
  • Experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud and cloud-native database architectures.
  • Understanding of cloud networking, security, encryption, and storage services within OCI.

Backup & Recovery

  • 5+ years managing backup and recovery solutions for databases larger than 5TB.
  • Experience with RMAN, Oracle Recovery Manager, and enterprise backup platforms including NetBackup, EMC NetWorker, and DD Boost.
  • Experience designing and validating disaster recovery and backup recovery procedures.

Monitoring & Management

  • Extensive experience implementing and administering Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Experience monitoring and managing enterprise-scale database and middleware environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise using AWR, ADDM, Diagnostics Pack, and Tuning Pack.

Middleware & Oracle Technologies

  • Experience administering Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Application Server, and WebLogic Suite.
  • Experience with Oracle technologies including:
    • Oracle Advanced Security

IT Service Management

  • Experience working within ITIL-based operational environments.
  • Experience using ServiceNow, Remedy, or equivalent IT service management platforms for incident, change, and problem management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Exadata, Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC), and Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS).
