POSITION TITLE: Itinerant Substitute Teacher
LOCATION: Varies depending on need
HOURLY: $20.63 with Benefits included

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for delivering the instructional program that the classroom teacher has put in place in order to continue to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The person in this position must demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. Depending on the length of the assignment, this position may be required to participate in professional activities as well as academic support activities. This position reports to the Manager of Substitute Staffing.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver lesson plans, instructional material, and tests to facilitate active learning.
  • Long-term substitute assignments may include planning and implementing effective lessons while using time, materials, and resources effectively.
  • Instruct, encourage, and monitor students' learning--adjusting strategies as needed to optimize learning.
  • Assign, grade and provide feedback on class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of students' progress--and prepare all required related documentation.
  • Participate and contribute as requested in meetings with department, school, district, parents, and community.
  • Maintain positive involvement with parents.
  • Manage student behavior and maintain discipline in accordance with district rules and procedures.
  • Inform administration immediately of any conditions detrimental to the health, safety, or orderly delivery of educational services.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
  • Follow published classroom rules, guidelines, and expectations for student behavior.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
  • Ensure that all activities conform to district and building policy guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • Display knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • React to change productively.
  • Participate in academic support activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  • Adhere to all district and building health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • 60 college credit hours minimum
  • Kansas State Emergency Substitute License, Standard Teaching License, or Standard Substitute License, Professional Teaching License

  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, peers, and staff.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of confidentiality, motivation, and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing, compiling, and organizing data.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the performance of light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, talking, and hearing; occasional stooping, bending, and reaching; some pushing, pulling, lifting, kneeling, balancing, and crouching. The position involves having close visual acuity to perform activities of the job. The position also requires the operation of learning technologies such as computers, handheld devices, etc. as well as relevant office equipment. Work is performed mostly in an indoor environment, with occasional outdoor requirements. Work is performed in a generally clean and hazard-free environment.
