Responsibilities
We are actively hiring for an Registered Nurse (RN) Operating Room.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  • Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice
  • Checks updated schedule each morning, prepares supplies and equipment according to preference card
  • Completes review of medical record
  • Promotes physical comfort and provides emotional support and safety for patients
  • Administers and charts medications as ordered by physician
  • Reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patient
  • Provides nursing care and appropriate monitoring according to policies and procedures
  • Communicates relevant information to physicians, facility manager and appropriate staff
  • Verifies surgical/procedure site with patient and according to surgical schedule and patient history and physical as well as consent
    • Performs time out according to policy
  • Provides for patient safety by use of monitors, side rails and assistance in ambulating and instruction on the use of call bell in bathroom
  • Completes nursing documentation on each operative procedure
  • In pre-operative area introduces self to patients, verifies patient identity, assesses patient's physical needs, alleviates patient anxiety, clarifies operative site and checks chart for necessary documentation
  • Practices and monitors aseptic techniques
  • Performs fire risk assessment on all patients. Applied measures to decrease the risk of fire/burns
  • Responsible for positioning patient relevant to procedure with awareness of body alignment, circulation and pressure points
  • Apply electrosurgical return electrodes, tourniquets etc. according to physician preference, policies and procedures
  • Accountable for accuracy and documentation of sponge, needle and instrument counts
  • Properly labels and cares for specimens
  • Accurately completes intraoperative record
  • Knowledge of operation and cleaning of surgical equipment
  • Assists in stocking, replenishing, outdating and preparation of supplies
  • Reviews and updates of physician preference cards
  • Assists physician and anesthesia personnel as needed
  • Provides emergency care according to physician and administrative policy
  • Initiates appropriate infection control measures
  • Specialty teams will require additional competencies
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information
  • Considers age specific needs in communication
  • Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility
  • Actively participates in staff meetings (review minutes), team meetings, training and daily safety huddle communication
  • Maintains compliance with fire, emergencies, blood-borne pathogens, exposure to chemicals, SDS sheets, MERTKA, spill kits, AWAIR program and other emergency and safety precautions as required by center
  • Complies with SCA and facility policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • One year of OR and/or medical / surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standings.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
  • Successful completion of Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope of services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
  • Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing is preferred.
