Job description

Sr Software Engineer – Ops Engineer

We are a horizontal team. We develop and deliver tools, libraries, and frameworks that enable engineering teams at Optum Digital to deliver effective and quality code fast to our customers. If you join us you'll be working on:

  • Developing state of the art Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines
  • Collaborate with OPS team to keep our critical infrastructure up to date using Terraform
  • Help engineers deploy code from keyboard to production using Github Actions, Jenkins, Artifactory
  • Creating tools and integrating existing tools into a cohesive platform to help Rally's engineers ship software
  • Build the development golden path that thousands of engineers will use every day
  • Support cloud-native disposable development environments
  • Design and build our development platform to help our engineers leverage the strengths of a cloud-native environment
  • Help scale our internal platform used by thousands with monitors and alerts that keep uptime high
  • Grow the capabilities of our internal platform in a Python-based environment
  • Building the default toolset for our engineers to leverage
  • Select, build, and integrate the best-of-breed toolset for our engineering teams
  • Create metrics to demonstrate Rally engineering's performance, productivity, and effectiveness

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with using Python or Typescript or Go
  • 3+ years of experience working with a major cloud platform (we're on AWS)
  • 2+ years of experience with Docker and container orchestration systems
  • Experience designing/creating/deploying APIs, custom solutions and supporting their operations
  • Experience building CI/CD platforms for microservices
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools with Terraform/Ansible
  • Experience with Kubernetes package managers like Helm

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building and supporting CI/CD platforms for a microservices ecosystem
  • Experience working in a large (500+ engineers) software engineering organization
  • Experience in a strongly regulated software industry (healthcare, finance, etc.)
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical role or the equivalent experience

Prior experience in leading and architecting projects and developing frameworks rather than contributing to frameworks is important.

Are you open to candidates that would need to be 100% remote for the duration of the engagement?

Yes open to remote candidates as most of the team is already remote.

Are you open to candidates that cannot convert to FTE without sponsorship?

Yes.

What does the team structure look like – how many members and what is the break-down of the team’s skill sets (ex: 1 PM, 4 Developers, etc.)?

Small team of 4 - 6 developers.

What does the interview process look like?

2 rounds of virtual video interview (HM screen and Panel round). Candidates are expected to be technical thus there will be coding, design, architecture challenges.
