Siemens Smart Infrastructure is looking for interns for our Electrification and Automation division in Wendell, NC to support our portfolio of protection and automation products and solutions. A variety of opportunities are available across the business supporting project design tasks, operations, product development, special projects and process improvements.
We are seeking qualified candidates for our Protection & Automation Internship Program beginning Fall '26 - Spring '27 starting August 17th, 2026. This program is based in Wendell, NC.
Our Protection & Automation Technician Internship Program offers hands-on experience inside our Panel Assembly Workshop (PA PAWS) in Wendell, NC - where our Siemens SIPANELSs, Industrial Control Panels (ICPs) are built to power the control systems that protect and automate electrical substations.
This internship is designed for students pursuing associates degrees who want to develop technical skills in electrical assembly, protection, and automation systems while working side-by-side with experienced Siemens mentors.
A successful internship can lead directly into our full-time roles after graduation as Protection & Automation Technician Development Program (PA TDP) and PA Electro-Mechanical Assembler Technician.
What You'll Do
  • Assist in assembling and wiring industrial control panels for electrical substations.
  • Learn and apply wire cutting, crimping, and routing best practices using Siemens standards.
  • Support panel testing and verification, including electrical safety checks, continuity testing, and documentation.
  • Gain exposure to fiber optic and Ethernet testing used in modern protection and automation systems.
  • Participate in real-world Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) with customers and Siemens engineers.
  • Collaborate with experienced technicians and engineers to learn how protection relays and automation devices integrate into substation applications.

Throughout the program, you'll gain exposure to:
  • Hands-on experience in Protection & Automation technologies used across utilities, data centers, and renewable energy systems.
  • Mentorship from Siemens experts in engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Exposure to Siemens' Power Academy training curriculum.
  • Potential fast-track into the PA Technician roles such Electro-Mechanical Assembler and Technician Development Program (TDP), upon successful completion and graduation.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related program (Associate level).
  • In your final year or approaching graduation (eligible to work full-time during the summer, and at least 30 hours/week during the semester).
  • Interested in learning how power systems, protection relays, and automation panels work together.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, teamwork, and commitment to safety.
  • Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Must be able to lift parts or sub-assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment within the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

The hourly pay range for this position is 20.00 per hour for first time Interns or 20.50 per hour for returning Interns. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
