Key responsibilities

  • Assist patients in selecting, dispensing, and adjusting eyewear based on their prescriptions and preferences.

  • Build relationships with patients, educate them about lens options, and help them understand their vision benefits.

  • Perform front desk tasks such as greeting patients, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and supporting office operations.

Job description

Village Family Eyecare is looking for an outgoing, friendly, and patient-focused Optician / Eyewear Specialist to join our team!

We are a growing, independent optometry practice that is committed to providing an exceptional experience for every patient who walks through our door. Weโ€™re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in their work, and can confidently help guide patients through their eyewear options in a supportive and educational way.

This position is a blend of optical care, patient interaction, and front office support. Because we are a small, close-knit team, youโ€™ll have the opportunity to help in many areas of the practiceโ€”no two days are exactly the same.

What You'll Do

Optical & Patient Care

  • Build genuine relationships with patients and help them feel comfortable and confident in their eyewear choices.
  • Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses based on their prescription, lifestyle, visual needs, and preferences.
  • Educate patients on lens options, materials, and coatings in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
  • Take accurate measurements, dispense and adjust eyewear, and help resolve fit or vision concerns.
  • Help patients understand their vision benefits and out-of-pocket costs in a transparent and helpful manner.
  • Follow up on optical orders and ensure a smooth experience from order to pickup.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and visually appealing optical area.
  • Assist with frame organization, inventory, and working with frame representatives as needed.

Front Desk & Office Support

  • Greet patients warmly and provide a welcoming first impression.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and assist with patient questions.
  • Verify insurance and vision benefits and assist with billing and claims when needed.
  • Check patients in and out and process payments.
  • Update patient records, scan documents, and send electronic communications.
  • Assist the doctor and team with daily office flow and support tasks.
  • Perform pre-testing and diagnostic testing when needed, including visual fields, OCT, retinal photography, tonometry, and auto-refraction.
  • Assist with contact lens insertion and removal training when needed.

Bonus Skills

  • If you enjoy social media, photography, Canva, or creative content, weโ€™d love to hear about it. There may be opportunities to assist with marketing and social media.
  • We welcome team members who bring ideas and enjoy helping a small business grow.

Who We're Looking For

The right person for this position is:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and genuinely enjoys working with people
  • Patient-focused and committed to providing a great experience
  • Comfortable discussing eyewear options and making recommendations
  • A strong communicator who can explain information clearly and simply
  • Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Detail-oriented and accurate in their work
  • Comfortable learning insurance benefits and office systems
  • A team player who is willing to help wherever needed
  • Positive, professional, and adaptable in a small-office environment

We are especially interested in someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in helping patients feel confident in their eyewear choices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn insurance benefits and practice management software

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of optical, optometry, retail, or customer-facing experience
  • ABO certification
  • Experience with vision or medical insurance
  • Experience in optical dispensing or patient care
  • Social media, Canva, photography, or marketing experience

We are happy to train the right person. A great attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are just as important as experience.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At Village Family Eyecare, we are not a large corporate opticalโ€”we are a small, independent practice where every team member truly matters.

Youโ€™ll work closely with the doctor and a supportive team in a friendly environment where we value both our patients and each other. We provide training, encouragement, and opportunities to grow within the practice.

Schedule:

  • Mondayโ€“Friday
  • No late nights
  • No weekends

If you enjoy working with people, have an interest in eyewear, and want to be part of a supportive, patient-focused team, weโ€™d love to meet you!
