What does an OPT tech do?

An OPT tech, or ophthalmic technician, assists eye care professionals by performing vision tests, preparing patients for exams, and operating diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors and slit lamps. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask help Opt Techs provide excellent patient experiences and support optometrists effectively. These qualifications are essential for accurate vision assessments, efficient workflow, and ensuring positive outcomes for both patients and the eye care team.

The role often requires juggling multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment, working closely with both the optometrist and front office staff. This collaborative and varied work structure offers valuable hands-on experience, especially for those interested in advancing within the eye care field.
