Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer works on projects, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering team members and takes responsibility for the supervision of the activities of the Mechanical Engineering team. Responsible for mechanical engineering of fired heaters, boilers, steam methane reformers.

JOB DUTIES/Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the overall design recognizing the requirements of other disciplines such as Process, Instrumentation and Structural engineering.
  • Applies the project specifications as defined by the purchase order and/or proposal or in the absence thereof select the appropriate criteria for design.
  • Supervising the department work to assure efficient and technically correct completion of the projects. Includes review of contract and client specifications for implementation into project specifications.
  • Perform or review mechanical calculations like pressure parts, tube support, coil flexibility analysis.
  • Prepare or review technical requisitions of various items like pipes, fittings, refractory materials, fabrication, dampers, guillotines, sootblowers, expansion joints, tube support castings, steam drums. Review of vendor offers and vendor drawings and calculations.
  • Establishing assembly sequences and procedures, review of shipping preparations, specifying the painting systems by interpreting client specifications. Participate in Constructability reviews.
  • Support proposal activities by performing/reviewing pressure part calculations and tube support design calculations and weight estimates, review and comment on client specifications. Provide estimated manhours for mechanical activities.
  • Assuring that all work is in compliance with laws, codes, specifications and contract requirements.
  • Surfacing unresolved conflict to top management when necessary.
  • Contributing to the technical and professional development of personnel.
  • Interfacing with Project Managers, Engineers, Vendors and Clients as required to achieve project goals.
  • Controlling Mechanical Engineering Department Standards and Procedures.
  • Travel to shop and/or jobsite as required (expected 10%).
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.

Work Experience

  • 10 Years of technical experience in a related technical field.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of discipline technology, equipment, materials, methods, etc. required.

Required SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem solver and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance and supervision.
