The Role:
Join the team that keeps Arlington Assembly running. You'll own the PLCs, robots, conveyors, and vision systems that build GM vehicles by solving problems and leading improvements on the factory floor.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities):
  • Enforces safe work practices as the highest priority
  • Responsible for controls engineering & electrical support
  • Provides technical support, direction, and training to support personnel/Skilled Trades within the organization.
  • Investigates systems and equipment problems and provides technical input in problem resolution.
  • Controls modifications and continuous improvement of production processes
  • Understanding press mechanical components
  • Familiar with VFDs, robotics, PLCs, HMIs and vision systems
  • Technical troubleshooting and direction for production departments
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Maintenance and Project Planning Activities
  • Schedule: Production currently runs 6 days/week
  • Shifts: Rotating shift schedule (changes every 4 months)

Technologies You'll Work With:
  • PLCs & Safety Systems: Allen-Bradley PLC5 and ControlLogix processors
  • Robotics: FANUC robots (programming and troubleshooting)
  • Drives & HMIs: Allen-Bradley and Siemens HMIs
  • Networks: DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP industrial protocols
  • Vision & Advanced Controls: Cognex, Keyence, and various other vision systems

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of experience in Controls Engineer in a manufacturing environment with mechanical experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering OR equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs and diagnose complex equipment issues
  • Experience supporting controls-related changes on the floor, for example new equipment installs, model launches, or major upgrades
  • Familiarity with VFDs, HMIs, and industrial electrical systems, including safety circuits and field devices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating / off shifts and support overtime as needed
  • Rotating shift schedule (changes every 4 months)
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including concise shift reports and effective collaboration with production, maintenance, and leadership

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience in automotive assembly or other high-volume, highly automated manufacturing environments; GM experience a plus
  • Experience with FANUC robotics (e.g., multi-robot cells, vision-guided motion, background logic, recovery routines)
  • Deep experience with vision systems (Cognex / Keyence), including setting up inspections, tuning performance, and integrating results into PLCs
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Maintenance.
  • Ability to read equipment drawings.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Equipment troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshooting Robotics Automation, Rockwell Drives and Allen Bradley PLC.
