Job description

JSW Steel USA is seeking motivated and driven Electrical Engineering Interns to join our team. This opportunity is especially geared toward recent graduates (Class of 2025) and soon-to-be graduates (Class of 2026) who are eager to apply their technical knowledge in a high-impact, industrial environment and jumpstart their engineering careers.

This internship places a strong emphasis on electrical systems, automation, and industrial controls within a modern steel manufacturing facility. Interns will gain hands-on experience working with power distribution systems, motor controls, PLCs, instrumentation, and process optimization technologies. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and operations teams to solve real-world challenges that directly impact production, efficiency, and safety.

Interns will contribute to a variety of engineering functions, including system design support, data analysis, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers exposure to both field and office environments, providing a comprehensive foundation for a successful transition into a full-time engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a working understanding of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, drives, and control systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing PLC-controlled processes, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and system layouts.
  • Support automation and controls projects, including system integration and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to diagnose technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles to improve system reliability and production efficiency.
  • Assist in conducting and analyzing experiments related to process control and equipment performance.
  • Utilize data analysis tools to identify trends and recommend operational improvements.
  • Work directly with operations and maintenance teams on projects impacting plant performance.
  • Participate in daily engineering activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings, including a final internship summary to leadership.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, with an emphasis on electrical safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (completed in 2025 or expected in 2026).
  • Strong interest in power systems, automation, controls, or industrial electrical applications.
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, or CAD tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work in both office and industrial (plant) environments.
