Job description

Metalcraft Automation Group has an opportunity for an Engineering Internship this summer in New Berlin, WI. The company primarily hires Engineering Interns within these different Engineering Groups:

  • Product Design Engineer / R&D
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Robotics
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • Project Engineer
  • Automation Engineer

The number of interns needed & work location of internship may vary by time of year and business needs. Internships are available year-round. Interns will report to a manager within the engineering group they are hired for. 


Responsibilities may vary by engineering group/internship. Below shares basic responsibilities within the 4 different Engineering positions listed above. Interns will play an important role in supporting each of these engineering positions & the responsibilities within the department & workgroup.  

  • Product Design Engineer / R&D
    • Product Design Engineers are instrumental in product development projects from concept to production. The Product Design Engineer is in charge of planning and coordinating technical engineering activities to make sure a project is completed within budget, according to a schedule, and the product meets the specified requirements. 

  • Manufacturing Engineer
    • The Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for spearheading continuous improvement projects, drafting and design of plant layout visions and value stream transformations, providing concept designs for support equipment used in manufacturing processes, collaborating with Project Engineering on NPI and potential DFM opportunities, creating standard work for manufacturing processes, and ultimately eliminating waste in manufacturing processes using lean manufacturing tools. 
  • Project Design Engineer
    • The Project Design Engineers are responsible for the design analysis, drawing reproduction, documentation and electronic data control activities essential to manufacturing, which includes completing an audit and the final release of the engineering documentation: production drawings and process routings. This position also includes project management activities to ensure projects are production ready. Design of fabricated assemblies and mechanical assemblies, plus validation of design can be a part of this position.

  • Automation / Robotics / Electrical Engineer
    • These Engineers are responsible for the planning, designing, HMI PLC and robot programming, testing, start up, and commissioning of automated systems throughout several manufacturing industries from start to finish.


  • Working towards Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, robotics, automation, or related field.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Exceptional organizational & time management skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
