How much do electrical detailer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for electrical detailer in the United States is $16.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $17.31 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does an Electrical Detailer typically collaborate with engineers and other construction professionals during a project?

Electrical Detailers work closely with electrical engineers, architects, and construction teams to ensure that all electrical layouts and schematics are accurate and feasible within the overall building design. They frequently attend coordination meetings to resolve any conflicts between electrical systems and other building elements, such as HVAC or plumbing. Effective communication and attention to detail are essential, as Electrical Detailers must interpret and translate engineering concepts into precise technical drawings that guide installation teams. This collaborative environment helps prevent costly errors and streamlines the construction process.

What is the highest paying job in electrical?

The highest paying jobs in the electrical field typically include electrical engineers, especially those with advanced degrees and specialized skills in power systems, control systems, or project management. Senior electrical engineers, electrical project managers, and electrical design managers often earn the highest salaries, particularly with professional certifications like PE (Professional Engineer) and extensive experience. These roles usually require a strong understanding of electrical codes, design software, and leadership abilities.

What are Electrical Detailers?

Electrical Detailers are specialized professionals who create detailed drawings and plans for electrical systems in buildings and construction projects. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce precise diagrams that show the layout of wiring, lighting, power systems, and related components. Working closely with engineers, architects, and contractors, Electrical Detailers help ensure that electrical installations are safe, efficient, and compliant with building codes. Their work is essential for facilitating accurate construction and reducing errors during installation.

What is the difference between Electrical Detailer vs Electrical Designer?

AspectElectrical DetailerElectrical Designer
CredentialsTypically requires technical diploma or certification in electrical draftingRequires a degree in electrical engineering or related field
Work EnvironmentDrafting rooms, CAD software, construction sitesDesign offices, project planning, CAD work
Employer & Industry UsageConstruction, manufacturing, electrical contractingEngineering firms, consulting, large construction projects

Electrical Detailers focus on creating detailed drawings and plans based on electrical designs, often working with CAD software. Electrical Designers develop the overall electrical system concepts and specifications. While both roles require knowledge of electrical systems, Detailers implement the designs, whereas Designers create the initial concepts and plans.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An electrical detailer typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized experience or certifications. High-paying roles in trades or sales, such as experienced electricians or real estate agents, can reach that level without a college degree, but they often require licensing, skills, and experience. Most jobs paying this much without a degree involve entrepreneurship, sales, or highly skilled trades.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrical Detailer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Electrical Detailer, you need a strong background in electrical drafting, blueprint reading, and knowledge of electrical codes, usually supported by a relevant technical diploma or associate degree. Proficiency with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or Revit), BIM systems, and project management tools is commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with engineers and contractors. These skills ensure accurate, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs that support successful project execution.

What is an electrical detailer?

Can you make $500,000 as an electrical engineer?

Electrical detailers typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as this salary level is more common for senior electrical engineers or those in executive roles with extensive experience, specialized skills, or management responsibilities. Entry-level or mid-career electrical detailers usually earn significantly less, with salaries varying based on location, industry, and certifications. Achieving a high salary often requires advanced skills, certifications, and years of experience in the field.
