Job Summary
C.R. Jackson is hiring a Milling Machine Operator / Trainee to support our milling operations in Darlington, SC. In this role, you will help remove existing asphalt pavement in preparation for resurfacing and roadway improvements. Whether you have previous milling experience or are looking to learn a new trade, you'll work alongside an experienced team that is committed to safety, quality, and doing the job right. What You'll Do:
• Operate or assist in operating a cold planer (milling machine)
• Learn milling equipment operation from experienced team members
• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
• Monitor milling depth, grade, and material removal to meet project specifications
• Work closely with ground crews, truck drivers, and supervisors to keep operations running efficiently
• Help keep equipment and work areas clean and organized
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
Valid driver's license required
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous heavy equipment, milling, paving, or construction experience preferred, but not required
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment
• Ability to understand and follow directions
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
• Willingness to travel throughout South Carolina as needed
• Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as project schedules require
• Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb throughout the workday
• Ability to safely climb on and off heavy equipment
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise
• Ability to work on uneven terrain and active construction sites
• Ability to maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic for safe operations
