Job description

KWS Seeds LLC in Tangent, OR is looking for a Seed Processing Manager (full-time, permanent) who will be responsible for general supervision of all phases of plant operations including production seed processing and packaging of various sugarbeet seed products; in accordance with the company quality standards and customer requirements. The Seed Processing Manager ensures compliance with all safety, security and emergency regulations and policies as required by state and federal guidelines. The position oversees and provides leadership to the Production Operations Team. This position also interacts and services as a liaison with KWS Seeds, LLC parent company KWS SAAT and its operations.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Management of seed processing to include: 
  • Leadership by direct daily interaction with processing team supervisors and team leaders. 
  • Commercial seed processing 
  • Seed treatment and packaging 
  • Quarterly and annual budget for all stages of processing 
  • Achieving quality standards on each work center 
  • Mid - Long term capital planning 
  • Capacity planning 
  • Manage a team of full-time and temporary employees during the processing season. 
  • Develop work schedules for 24/7 operations during the processing season 
  • Develop senior supervisors to ensure high standards of productions, quality and safety, improvement of seed quality, timely shipments and maximize efficient use of resources. 
  • Create work flow diagrams and determine equipment capacity and limitations. 
  • Create SOP's and working instruction and update them on an annual basis. 
  • Process products for the sales' markets that meet or exceed predetermined quality standards. 
  • Communicate starting, expected and actual completion dates of each shop order. 
  • Encourage improved communication between departments and team building within work groups. 
  • Coordinate and work with Quality Manager to bring sub-par seed lots up to market standards. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations, R&D, Q.C., Engineering, and Project Manager to develop, plan and implement cutting edge technologies for more efficient processing methods. 
  • Communicates and shares operational duties and direction with KWS SAAT. 
  • Meet attendance requirements. 
  • Other duties and/or assignments as needed

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Management, Operations, or a related field preferred. 
  • 8-10 years seed industry in production or manufacturing experience. 
  • Knowledge of the sugar beet industry preferred including seed and crop production, as well as, allied industry chemical, equipment and research. 
  • Previous experience with budgeting and an understanding of financial/accounting practices. 
  • Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office; SAP preferred 
  • Strong organizational, team leadership, communication, time management and project skills.
  • Ability to travel local and international
