Your Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.
Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, completes performance reviews, and takes disciplinary action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.
The administrator manages teams, including a phone contact center, within the Board of Nursing, Bureau of Health Care Practitioner Regulation and reports to a selected exempt Board Executive Director. This program is responsible for the initial licensure of Board of Nursing health care professions.
Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed. Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, and work objectives. Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities. Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job. Ensures that staff receive necessary training, that staff meetings are conducted on a regular basis and that effective methods are used for optimal communication.
Directs the work of supervisors to ensure the best use of time and resources. Ensures that application processing and eligibility decisions are completed in accordance with established criteria and time frames of laws and rules. Ensures supervisors monitor the accuracy and timeliness of application and licensure data into LEIDS, and that security procedures are followed to prevent breach of confidentiality and loss of records.
Analyzes, formulates, and recommends proposals to rules and legislation. Analyzes and develops new policies and procedures to efficiently and effectively implement board, department and legislative directives. Identifies issues requiring attention, conducts necessary research, completes analyses of issues and prepares reports for the Executive Director. Assists in the development of systems and directs the implementation of legislative amendments to applicable Florida Statutes, which establish new or additional requirements for licensure. Evaluates policies and procedures and recommends changes to management to improve processes and efficiency.
Communicates verbally and in writing, providing guidance to applicants, the general nursing community, board members and licensees regarding the statutory, rule and policy requirements of the initial licensure program.
Manages and builds the agendas for the Board of Nursing and several committees involving licensure applications requiring Board approval. Travels to bi-monthly Committee/Board meetings. Makes presentations before assigned committees and the Board. Prepares meeting minutes following assigned committee meetings. Represents the Board and the department at meetings.
Participates in the board office management and leadership team, assuming lead responsibility for special projects and activities as assigned, and coordinating the functions with other team members. Functions as Acting Board Executive Director in the absence of the Executive Director, to oversee the Board of Nursing.
Manages the revision and processing of licensure applications and/or forms.
Researches laws, rules and regulations in preparing correspondence for the Governor, Security of the Department, Board Chairman and Executive Director.
Conducts necessary research and prepares statistical and other data reports relating to licensure, discipline, budget, and other functions of the board within established deadlines.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
