Job description

Granite State Manufacturing supplies mission-critical systems and precision components to the U.S. Navy and major shipbuilders, supporting warship and submarine programs. The company plays a key role in delivering high-performance manufacturing solutions where precision, reliability, and compliance matter every day.
As Operations Manager- Second Shift, you are responsible for the overall leadership and management of GSM's 2nd shift manufacturing operations, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met. This position has collaborative ownership of machining, assembly, quality, material control, and supporting functions, driving operational excellence and aligning daily execution with GSM's mission to support the U.S. Navy.
Responsibilities
  • Lead shift operations in coordination with Department Managers to achieve performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Supervise daily activities in machining, welding, assembly, and quality during second shift to ensure optimal utilization of people, machines, and materials.
  • Maintain accountability for production schedules, on-time delivery, and customer commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, NAVSEA, IPC standards, and customer specifications.
  • Partner with Planning, Supply Chain, and Engineering to resolve production bottlenecks and align resources with demand.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement using GSM's core principles.
  • Foster employee engagement, workforce development, and effective shift-to-shift communication.
  • Support customer, government, and internal audits, ensuring nonconformances are identified, resolved, and prevented.
  • Implement and sustain S&OP-style site reviews, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Promote and enforce GSM's safety procedures, ensuring a professional and secure work environment.
  • Work to reduce and eliminate barriers and obstacles to improve overall cost and scheduling performance.
  • Your leadership is expected to make it easier for employees to make quality products and make it easier for customers to do business with GSM.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment evidenced by: being at work on time to perform assigned duties, following the policies of Granite State Manufacturing, always wearing safety glasses in designated areas, maintaining a neat and orderly work area, and following safety practices to prevent errors.
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and staff, collaborating with them to accomplish shared purposes and goals.
  • Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observes all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, preferably defense or aerospace.
  • Strong understanding of machining, assembly, and quality operations in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, NAVSEA requirements, MIL-STDs, and other defense compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (M1 preferred) and data-driven performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage change, and deliver results.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
