POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager, under the direction of the General Manager, is responsible for leading daily operational performance related to transportation, field execution, fleet operations, and operational support for the Frederick location. This role provides leadership, direction, and support to drivers, mechanics, operational leadership, and field personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery.

The Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role in driving operational execution, workforce performance, employee engagement, and customer service across the Frederick operation. In addition, this role serves as a key leader in driving and reinforcing safety initiatives across the Colorado operations, with a significant focus on driver safety, DOT compliance, employee accountability, leadership visibility, and safe work practices.

This position is expected to lead by example in the field while promoting a culture of communication, teamwork, accountability, and operational consistency. The Operations Manager will support workforce development, employee coaching, operational and safety trainings, and continuous improvement initiatives while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, employee engagement, safety performance, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee daily transportation and operational activities to ensure safe, efficient, and timely service delivery for the Frederick operation
  • Provide visible leadership, coaching, and direction to drivers, mechanics, and operational personnel to support operational performance, accountability, and employee engagement
  • Coordinate scheduling, route execution, operational coverage, and workforce support to meet customer service expectations
  • Monitor operational performance metrics including productivity, service levels, driver performance, safety performance, and fleet utilization
  • Lead and reinforce safety initiatives with a strong focus on driver safety, DOT compliance, safe work practices, employee accountability, and operational consistency
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field to support employees, reinforce safety expectations, conduct observations, and promote operational consistency
  • Conduct safety observations, support incident response efforts, investigations, corrective actions, and ongoing safety improvement initiatives to reduce operational risk and improve safety performance
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, safety standards, and operational procedures
  • Work closely with fleet maintenance personnel to ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and operational
  • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, service quality, and operational consistency
  • Assist in workforce planning including recruiting, onboarding, training, and development of operational employees
  • Lead and support operational and safety trainings, meetings, and initiatives to reinforce safe work practices, employee engagement, and operational accountability
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance management to employees to support accountability, development, and operational success
  • Promote employee engagement by building strong working relationships with drivers, mechanics, and operational teams through communication, visibility, and support
  • Support operational planning, budgeting, and cost control initiatives
  • Review operational reports and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Partner with Colorado operational leadership to promote consistency in safety expectations, communication, and accountability across locations
  • Maintain strong relationships with employees, leadership, and customers to support operational success
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides leadership and oversight to operational employees and operational leadership roles supporting the Frederick operation, which may include supervisors, drivers, mechanics, dispatch personnel, and other field employees. The Operations Manager is responsible for workforce planning, employee development, scheduling, coaching, performance management, accountability, and supporting hiring initiatives in partnership with operational leadership and Human Resources.

This role also plays a key leadership role in reinforcing safety expectations, supporting safety training initiatives, promoting employee engagement, and driving operational accountability while fostering a culture of communication, teamwork, and safe work practices.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license required
  • OSHA safety training preferred
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • DOT and transportation safety training experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, logistics, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of operations, transportation, logistics, or service-based management experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising field-based employees such as drivers, mechanics, or technicians.
  • Strong knowledge of operational planning, scheduling, and service coordination.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, safety compliance, and transportation operations preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and reporting tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position operates in both office and field environments. The role may require walking operational yards, inspecting vehicles or equipment, and interacting with employees in active work environments.

The work environment may include exposure to outdoor conditions, moving vehicles, noise, and odors typical of operational and fleet environments. Appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when entering operational areas.
