Job Title: Truckload Operations Manager
Location: Caledonia, WI (Onsite)
Territory: Eastern Wisconsin & Northern Illinois
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Compensation: $80,000 to $95,000 Base Salary
Position Summary

The Truckload Operations Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of an asset-based flatbed fleet currently operating approximately 80 trucks, with continued expansion planned beyond 100 trucks.

This leadership role is responsible for overseeing dispatch, load planning, driver management, customer service, fleet utilization, compliance, profitability, and operational performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operations leader with experience managing flatbed trucking operations within an asset-based carrier and a proven ability to build processes that support sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily operations of an asset-based flatbed fleet and support continued fleet growth
  • Oversee transportation operations from load acceptance through final delivery and customer follow-up
  • Manage and develop dispatch personnel while providing operational leadership and accountability
  • Support pneumatic transportation operations as business needs require
  • Plan and assign freight based on equipment availability, driver hours, customer requirements, and profitability
  • Monitor key operational metrics including fleet utilization, revenue per truck, revenue per mile, empty miles, on-time performance, and operating margins
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions to improve productivity and profitability
  • Coordinate with drivers regarding dispatch instructions, route changes, equipment issues, customer expectations, and load securement requirements
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, company policies, and safety standards
  • Utilize Samsara and transportation management systems to monitor fleet activity, compliance, safety events, and driver performance
  • Respond quickly to service disruptions, breakdowns, weather delays, customer escalations, and operational challenges
  • Partner with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet availability
  • Support driver recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and retention initiatives
  • Develop standardized dispatch procedures, communication processes, reporting, and service recovery protocols
  • Review operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build strong relationships with customers while ensuring consistent service execution
  • Collaborate with sales and pricing teams to evaluate new business opportunities, lane profitability, and capacity planning
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence


Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of transportation, trucking, logistics, dispatch, or fleet management experience
  • Previous management experience within an asset-based trucking company
  • Direct experience managing flatbed, open-deck, specialized, or similar truckload operations
  • Strong knowledge of dispatch, load planning, fleet utilization, driver management, and customer service
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, weight laws, and transportation safety standards
  • Experience monitoring fleet profitability and operational KPIs
  • Proven leadership experience managing dispatch teams and professional drivers
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced transportation environment
  • Experience using transportation management systems, ELD platforms, and fleet management technology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work onsite in Caledonia, Wisconsin

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing fleets of 50+ trucks
  • Experience leading transportation operations through periods of fleet growth
  • Experience using Samsara for fleet tracking, compliance, safety, and reporting
  • Knowledge of flatbed load securement, specialized freight, and open-deck transportation
  • Experience working with both company drivers and owner-operators
  • Familiarity with pneumatic transportation operations
  • Experience managing operating budgets, transportation cost controls, and P&L performance
