Job Summary:
The Operations Manager for an industrial manufacturing parts distribution operation is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of inventory from receiving through shipping while leading warehouse personnel and meeting customer service goals.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Operations Management
  • Plan, organize, and oversee daily warehouse operations.
  • Ensure accurate receiving, inspection, storage, picking, packing, and shipping of industrial parts.
  • Maintain efficient warehouse layout and product organization.
  • Monitor workflow to maximize productivity and minimize delays.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, production, sales, and transportation departments.

Inventory Control
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP system.
  • Conduct cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages or overstock situations.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of products to prevent damage.

Staff Leadership
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate warehouse employees.
  • Schedule staffing to meet operational demands.
  • Coach employees on productivity, quality, and safety expectations.
  • Conduct performance reviews and address disciplinary issues when necessary.
  • Foster teamwork and employee engagement.

Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections.
  • Ensure proper operation of forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

Shipping & Receiving
  • Verify incoming shipments for accuracy and quality.
  • Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate freight carriers and delivery schedules.
  • Resolve shipping errors, damaged goods, and customer complaints.

Equipment & Facility Management
  • Oversee maintenance of forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors, and warehouse equipment.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization (5S or Lean practices).
  • Coordinate building repairs and preventative maintenance.

Process Improvement
  • Analyze warehouse performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Customer Service
  • Ensure timely order fulfillment to meet customer expectations.
  • Work with customer service and sales teams to resolve order issues.
  • Maintain high levels of order accuracy and on-time delivery.

Financial Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the warehouse operating budget.
  • Control labor, equipment, and supply costs.
  • Monitor overtime and staffing expenses.
  • Recommend capital improvements and equipment purchases.

Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare reports on inventory accuracy, productivity, shipping performance, and safety.
  • Maintain records for audits and compliance.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs).

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop reports or KPI's effectively communicating interpreting or communicating results.
  • Strong root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to quickly make decisions due to changing priorities and or changes.
  • Enforcement of all related HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Experience with MS Office and ERP systems is required.
  • Broad understanding of material flow and supply chain concepts as well as ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and warehouse safety practices.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma principles is often preferred.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of warehouse or distribution experience.
  • 2-5 years in a supervisory or management role.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand for periods of time while performing tasks
  • Must be able to access and navigate the warehouse facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
