Job description

AnimalKind is a nonprofit organization working to improve the lives of people and pets in our community through accessible veterinary care and innovative animal welfare programs. Our Community Veterinary Clinic provides affordable, high-quality veterinary services, with a focus on high-volume spay/neuter, while our ReTails Thrift Store helps support AnimalKind's mission and programs.
We are looking for an Operations Manager who is excited to help build something meaningful and make a difference for animals, their families, and our community.
This is an exciting opportunity to join AnimalKind at an important stage of growth. You'll have the opportunity to help shape our systems, strengthen our team, and build sustainable operations while doing work that directly improves the lives of animals and the people who love them.
If you are an experienced, collaborative leader who enjoys both big-picture thinking and rolling up your sleeves to get things done, we'd love to hear from you.
AnimalKind is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
About the Role
The Operations Manager is a key member of the AnimalKind leadership team, responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Community Veterinary Clinic and ReTails Thrift Store. Working closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and ReTails Manager, this position helps ensure smooth operations, excellent client service, sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
This is a hands-on leadership role. During the clinic's startup and growth, the Operations Manager will work alongside the team and jump in where needed-including front desk operations, client communication, scheduling, and other non-licensed duties-while also providing strategic oversight and operational leadership.
Approximately 60% of the role will focus on clinic operations, 20% on ReTails, and 20% on administrative, financial, and human resources responsibilities.
What You'll Do
  • Lead and support veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and the ReTails Manager.
  • Oversee daily operations, staffing, scheduling, workflows, facilities, inventory, equipment, and vendors.
  • Support front desk and client services and pitch in with hands-on operational needs.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and employee development.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for human resources, including employee records, benefits, leave, policies, and compliance.
  • Partner with organizational leaders on budgeting, expenses, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting, and grant documentation.
  • Monitor operational and financial performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable employment, workplace safety, veterinary, and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a workplace culture grounded in compassion, collaboration, accountability, and respect.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of progressive management experience, ideally in veterinary, medical, nonprofit, or another complex service environment.
  • Experience supervising employees and managing day-to-day operations.
  • Strong organizational, financial, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, remain calm under pressure, and approach challenges with flexibility and a solution-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business management software.
  • A genuine commitment to AnimalKind's mission of providing compassionate and accessible veterinary care.

Experience in veterinary practice management, nonprofit operations, HR administration, high-volume spay/neuter, TNR, or animal welfare is a plus.
